Rumors of a possible Devil May Cry 3 remake are circulating, primarily due to recent comments from Daniel Southworth, who voices Vergil, Dante’s twin brother. With the Devil May Cry franchise undergoing a resurgence, the release of a new anime series on Netflix in April 2025 could coincide with this project. The last significant release in the series was Devil May Cry 5 in 2019, making fans eager for new content, especially if the upcoming anime succeeds.
For those unfamiliar, Devil May Cry centers around Dante, a half-demon demon hunter who battles various demonic entities using an array of magical weapons and acrobatic combat techniques. The series debuted in 2001 under the creative direction of Hideki Kamiya, co-creator of Bayonetta, and has played a vital role in shaping the action game genre. To date, the franchise has expanded to include four sequels, a less successful reboot in 2013, a preceding anime series in 2007, and appearances by Dante and other characters in crossover games such as the Marvel vs. Capcom series and Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne.
Insights from Vergil’s Voice Actor on Possible Remake
As the third installment in the series, Devil May Cry 3 serves as a prequel to the first two games, showcasing a younger Dante at the beginning of his illustrious journey as a demon hunter. The narrative pits him against Vergil, who aims to acquire immense demonic power by opening a gateway to the Demon World on Earth. This installment is often celebrated as one of the finest in the series, particularly after later releases introduced Vergil as a playable character, complete with his unique abilities and storyline.

In addition to his role as Vergil, Southworth has a diverse portfolio, including portraying Eric Myers/The Quantum Ranger in Power Rangers Time Force. It is plausible that his comments about a new game could reference another project altogether requiring a younger vocal rendition. Nevertheless, given the successful launch of Devil May Cry 5 and the upcoming anime series, the timing appears favorable for the return of the franchise in the form of a remake from its illustrious past.
