Rumor: Forza Motorsport Developer Turn 10 Transformed into Support Studio for Forza Horizon

Turn 10 Shifts Focus to Forza Horizon Amid Studio Layoffs

Recent reports suggest that Turn 10 Studios, best known for developing the Forza Motorsport franchise, has pivoted to become a support studio for the Forza Horizon series. This transition follows a wave of layoffs that affected various departments within the gaming industry.

A former employee, Fred Russel, made these claims in a post on the ResetERA forums and shared the news via his Facebook account. With over 70 employees let go, the studio’s shift appears to be anticipated, given the significant changes occurring within Turn 10.

This situation reflects broader trends in the gaming industry, where a number of studios have faced similar fates. For instance, The Initiative, which was meant to rejuvenate the Perfect Dark franchise, has been shut down, resulting in the cancellation of its project. Rare’s highly anticipated title, Everwild, also faced a similar fate, as did an MMORPG under development by ZeniMax Online that had received praise from Xbox’s head, Phil Spencer, earlier this year. Additionally, various other projects, including an unannounced first-person shooter by Romero Games—founded by industry legend John Romero—have been scrapped.

While it’s disheartening to witness the current state of the Forza Motorsport franchise—especially after its recent installment was considered a return to form for the series—the future of racing games may still thrive through Forza Horizon, with Turn 10 contributing its expertise.
