CAPCOM’s Struggles with a Dino Crisis Remake
Efforts to revive the classic survival horror series, Dino Crisis, have been underway but faced challenges that led to their cancellation. Reports indicate that CAPCOM attempted to create a remake on two separate occasions; however, both projects were ultimately abandoned due to quality concerns.
In a discussion on X, renowned CAPCOM leaker Dusk Golem shared insights into these past attempts. He revealed that the first effort was organized by CAPCOM Vancouver before the studio’s closure, while the second initiative came from an unidentified internal team at CAPCOM some years later. Unfortunately, this second project did not meet expectations and was therefore discarded.
(1/2) I hope Capcom eventually figures out what they want to do with Dino Crisis. For the record, & I don’t believe this is new info, but there has been a couple attempts in the last decade to remake Dino Crisis, the first by Capcom Vancouver before they were shut down (still https://t.co/f5rMQuk1yX

Renewed Hopes for Dino Crisis
Despite the setbacks in developing a Dino Crisis remake, recent developments suggest that the beloved franchise might be on the verge of a revival. Earlier this year, CAPCOM re-established trademarks for the series in both Japan and Brazil. This strategic move is typically indicative of a company’s genuine interest in reinvigorating a dormant intellectual property.
The Brazilian trademark filing is particularly noteworthy, as it coincided with CAPCOM’s trademark application for Resident Evil Requiem within a similar category covering entertainment and video games. This dual trademark activity raises expectations among fans that a revival might be imminent for Dino Crisis, a game that many believe deserves a modern reincarnation.
Classic Gameplay Reimagined
While the main series has remained relatively silent, 2023 saw a nostalgic revival of Dino Crisis with new releases on GOG, featuring the first two titles. These versions include notable improvements such as:
- Enhanced DirectX game renderer for better performance.
- New rendering options, including V-Sync control and gamma correction.
- Support for integer scaling and anti-aliasing features.
- Increased maximum rendering resolution up to 4K.
- Expanded color depth to 32-bit.
- Improved animation fluidity and audio playback.
- Cloud save capabilities for a seamless gaming experience.
These enhancements not only amplify the aesthetics of these classic entries but also cater to modern gamers’ expectations, bridging the past with the future.
As the gaming community eagerly awaits CAPCOM’s next moves, the prospect of a fully realized Dino Crisis remake remains a tantalizing possibility. Fans hope that the rich legacy of this iconic franchise will receive the attention it so richly deserves.
