Russian modder embarrassed Nvidia – he designed a new card before its premiere

The GeForce RTX 2060 debuted in a version with 6GB 192-bit GDDR6 memory, but due to the crisis in the graphics card market, Nvidia plans to update the design, this time with a double dose of VRAM.

Russian idea for GeForce RTX 2060 with 12 GB of video memory

The Russian modder VIK-on (you can associate it with previous modifications of video cards – for example, GeForce RTX 2080 Ti or GeForce RTX 3070) clearly did not want to wait for the premiere of the card and. .. decided to collect it at home.

To do this, he used the regular version of the GeForce RTX 2060 (with 6 GB of video memory) and soldered the memory to the larger systems. What came of this? Watch the video below.

A GeForce RTX 2060 with double the memory dose was correctly identified by the GPU-Z app. However, the modder found occasional black screen display issues (which can be resolved by putting the card in efficient mode in the Nvidia Control Panel).

VIK-on also tested the card’s performance in the Unigine Superposition test and in mining the Ethereum cryptocurrency, but there should be nothing surprising here – the additional video memory practically did not lead to an increase in performance (at least not in the tests used by the Russian modder).

A double dose of VRAM does not increase the efficiency of cryptocurrency mining.

Finally, it remains to recall that the official premiere of the GeForce RTX 2060 12 GB card is scheduled for early December. Availability details are not yet known.
