Roman Reigns turned heel and became The Tribal Chief because of his brother’s advice from years ago: What did Rosey say?

Despite having only two options to become the face of WWE – being a bada** or an a**hole – Roman Reigns surprisingly managed to embody both. His contributions to the pro-wrestling industry have made him a household name, and his popularity has remained unwavering even while working a limited schedule.

Although he had a natural talent for surviving in the ring, it was the powerful words of his late brother, Matthew Tapunu’u Anoaʻi (also known as Rosey), that propelled him to become the face of the company. The Tribal Chief shared that his older brother passed down the words that were essential for him to become a main eventer, and it certainly paid off. Following WrestleMania 40, Reigns will hold the record for the most main event matches at WrestleMania.

“He told me if I ever want to be the top guy, if I ever want to be the main eventer, the face of this company, then I would have to learn how to be an a**hole sometimes.”

Ever since taking his big brother’s advice and making a heel turn at SummerSlam 2020, the Tribal Chief has been dominating the company with his ruthless persona, excelling in every segment, promo, and match.

Despite The Rock’s return and transformation into the ultimate ‘Hollywood Heel’ in the WWE Universe, The Tribal Chief has made sure to command Rock’s acknowledgement. Although Reigns is capable of thriving as a babyface in the WWE, his heel run has become a legendary tale to be told for generations to come.

Roman Reigns’ Retirement Consideration: A Brief Moment of Uncertainty

In 2020, The Tribal Chief chose to take a break from WWE as a precaution against COVID-19. With a weak immune system and young children at home, he prioritized his health and did not want to put himself at risk by continuing to wrestle.

During a conversation with Forbes, Paul Heyman disclosed that SmackDown producers had been eagerly anticipating the return of Roman Reigns, but had not received any communication from him. Upon further inquiry, Heyman discovered that The Tribal Chief had, in fact, made the decision to retire from wrestling.

He remarked that the comeback of Reigns and his remarkable ascent in the WWE as the champion and head of The Bloodline can only be described as a miracle.
