Enhancements to ROG Xbox Ally: Default Game Profiles Unveiled
Microsoft has introduced a refined feature for the ROG Xbox Ally handheld gaming consoles, known as Default Game Profiles (Preview).This innovative capability, announced and launched today, is designed to optimize hardware performance for specific games, focusing on improving battery longevity and maintaining stable frame rates during gameplay.
In preliminary trials conducted by Microsoft, the game Hollow Knight: Silksong demonstrated impressive results, achieving nearly an additional hour of playtime while utilizing its Default Game Profile settings. Remarkably, this performance was maintained without dropping below the 120 FPS threshold, ensuring a smooth gaming experience.
“Default Game Profiles are hand-crafted per-game and only apply when on battery, ”explains Roanne Sones, CVP Gaming Devices and Ecosystem at Xbox.“When you launch a supported game, the system automatically applies a tailored game profile, which sets recommended power (TDP) and a FPS limit specific to the game.”
This customizable profile dynamically adjusts the power settings of the handheld device based on the game’s current performance metrics, providing a seamless gaming experience that prioritizes both performance and efficiency.
Current Compatibility and Supported Games
At present, the new Default Game Profiles feature is available on ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X devices, with a selection of 40 games supported. This roster includes popular titles such as Minecraft, Call of Duty series (Black Ops 6 and 7), Warzone, Doom Eternal, Forza Horizon 5, and many others, enhancing the gameplay experience for fans of these franchises.
How to Enable and Manage Default Game Profiles
To utilize this groundbreaking feature, players must ensure they have the latest updates for Armoury Crate SE, the Xbox PC app, and Windows 11. For those wishing to deactivate Default Game Profiles, the option can be found in the Armoury Crate Command Center Game Bar widget, featuring a simple toggle at the top of the interface.
What’s Next for ROG Xbox Ally?
Microsoft has teased additional enhancements slated for the handheld devices. Next week will see the introduction of Game Save Sync, allowing players to track the last time their game save files were synchronized across different platforms. Additionally, forthcoming features include improved sleep and wake reliability, enhanced formatting options for microSD cards, and advanced AI capabilities such as Automatic Super Resolution (Auto SR) and highlight reels for a more immersive gaming experience.
