“Right now I’m scared to death” – Mike Tyson addresses rumors of Jake Paul boxing match being classified as an exhibition bout
Mike Tyson, the renowned boxer, has issued a response to rumors stating that his fight against Jake Paul would be classified as an exhibition match.
It has been confirmed that Tyson will be going up against Paul in a boxing match. The highly anticipated event is scheduled for July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas and will be broadcasted live on Netflix.
Despite rumors circulating for a few weeks after the match was announced that it would be an exhibition, the final decision on its classification as an exhibition or regular fight will be made by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation’s Combative Sports program.
Brian E. Francis, the temporary executive director of TDLR, will consult with the staff of the Combative Sports program before making a decision. The process involves submitting all proposed matchups for an event at least 21 days in advance to the review body.
Upon receiving a suggested matchup, Combative Sports staff will carefully assess the records of both fighters to ensure similar skill levels. In the case of a significant discrepancy between the fighters’ records, it will be deemed an unfair pairing and may result in the fight being designated as an exhibition.
Tyson recently spoke to Fox News about the rumors surrounding his upcoming fight against Paul. He made it clear that although the fight may be considered an exhibition, it will still adhere to traditional boxing regulations. He stated:
”This is called an exhibition, but if you look up exhibition you will not see any of the laws that we are fighting under. This is a fight.”
Tyson was asked what inspired him to return to the ring, to which he replied:
”Whatever I’m afraid to do, I do it.”
In addition, the 57-year-old stated:
”Right now, I’m scared to death but as the fight gets closer, the less nervous I become. Because this is reality, and in reality, I’m invincible.”

The Significance of a Potential Exhibition Match between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul
If the potential exhibition boxing match between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson were to take place, the two would be required to compete in two-minute rounds instead of three, and they would also be required to use 16-ounce gloves as opposed to 10-ounce gloves.
Finally, in the event of a knockout, there would be no judges to score the fight, making it reminiscent of ‘Iron Mike’s’ last bout against the iconic Roy Jones Jr.
During an interview with USA Today, Cameron Davies, a boxing promoter from Texas, stated that he has communicated with the staff of Texas Combative and is almost certain that the fight will be an exhibition.
