Richard Gere Sells $11 Million Connecticut Home to Relocate to Spain for Closer Ties with Wife Alejandra Silva’s Family
Richard Gere’s Transition to Spain: Selling His Connecticut Mansion
Richard Gere, the iconic star of Pretty Woman, has recently completed the sale of his sprawling Connecticut estate for $10.75 million. This transaction followed his announcement about relocating to Spain, marking an important shift in both his personal and family life.
Purchased just two years prior from the renowned musician Paul Simon for $10.8 million, Gere and his wife, Alejandra Silva, faced a nominal loss of $50,000 on the sale. Nevertheless, selling the expansive 32-acre mansion was a necessary step in their plan to move closer to Silva’s family in Spain.
Life on the Brookwood Estate
Before embarking on their journey to Spain, Gere and Silva envisioned transforming their Connecticut residence into a private, sustainable farm. The property features a 1938-built house with:
- Six bedrooms
- Eleven bathrooms
- A guest cottage with three bedrooms
- Resplendent amenities including a swimming pool and beautiful gardens
As detailed in the Sotheby’s listing, often referred to as the Brookwood estate, it is characterized by its “open rolling landscape,”woodland trails, and natural features like a pond and a waterfall.
Reportedly sold in late October 2024 to Brookwood Hills, LLC—registered under James Hoffman of SBP Homes—the estate now begins a new chapter under different ownership.
Richard Gere’s Motivations for Relocation
Since marrying Silva in 2018, Gere’s life primarily revolved around New York. Their recent decision to resettle in Silva’s native Madrid reflects a desire for familial and cultural proximity. During an interview with Vanity Fair Spain in April 2024, Gere expressed:
“It will be wonderful [for Alejandra] to be closer to her family, her lifelong friends, and her culture.”
Recognizing the sacrifices Silva made by moving to the US six years ago, Gere is committed to allowing her a significant time back in her home country. He enthusiastically voiced his view of this new adventure:
“Going to Madrid is going to be a great adventure because I have never lived full-time outside of the United States. And I think it will be very interesting for my children as well.”
Embracing Spanish Culture
In the same interview, Gere expounded on his admiration for Spain, praising the “fabulous”lifestyle and the joyfulness of the Spanish people. He specifically mentioned looking forward to indulging in the “extraordinary”cuisine and experiencing the warmth and generosity characteristic of Spanish culture.
As for their new home base, Gere and Silva have chosen an exquisite mansion valued at 11 million euros located in the upscale La Moraleja neighborhood. The property boasts a vast 10,000 square meters, featuring a luxurious three-story home complete with premium amenities such as a heated pool and a private wine cellar.
Gere’s life is set to embark on a new adventure filled with exciting changes both personally and culturally, as the family prepares to embrace their life in Spain.
