Revealed: PC System Requirements for Monster Hunter Wilds

Capcom has disclosed the PC system requirements for Monster Hunter Wilds, which, not surprisingly, indicate that the game demands a robust system to ensure a smooth 60fps experience. This title continues Capcom’s tradition of utilizing its proprietary RE Engine, enhanced significantly for current-generation consoles.

The latest installment in the Monster Hunter franchise appears to employ a similar RE Engine framework as Capcom’s recent open-world action RPG, Dragon’s Dogma 2. This is quite predictable, given that both Dragon’s Dogma and Monster Hunter possess numerous structural similarities in gameplay and world design.

Similar to Dragon’s Dogma 2, Monster Hunter Wilds necessitates a powerful system, even by modern standards, to achieve a stable 60 FPS.

Monster Hunter Wilds PC System Requirements

As per Capcom, you will require at least a Nvidia GTX 1660 or equivalent to run Monster Hunter Wilds. The minimum CPU requirement is either an AMD Ryzen 5 3600 or an Intel i5 10600.

While the minimum specifications seem adequate, they will only allow for approximately 30 FPS at 1080p, with upscaling. To reach 60 FPS, a significantly more powerful system will be necessary.

Below are the minimum and recommended system requirements for Monster Hunter Wilds:

Minimum

  • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
  • OS: Windows 10 (64-bit Required)
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-10600, Intel Core i3-12100F, or AMD Ryzen 5 3600
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super (VRAM 6GB) or AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT (VRAM 6GB)
  • Storage: 140GB SSD
  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Network: Broadband Internet connection

The minimum requirements necessitate using upscaling technologies (like FSR3 or DLSS3) to achieve 30 FPS at 1080p. Moreover, Capcom indicates that these specifications will only enable you to run the game at the Lowest settings.

Recommended

  • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
  • OS: Windows 10 (64-bit Required)
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-11600K, Intel Core i5-12400, AMD Ryzen 5 3600X, or AMD Ryzen 5 5500
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Super (VRAM 8GB), NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 (VRAM 8GB), or AMD Radeon RX 6700XT (VRAM 12GB)
  • Storage: 140GB SSD
  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Network: Broadband Internet connection

The recommended specifications aim for 1080p at 60 FPS, but with an important note. To maintain a consistent 60 FPS, Capcom advises using Frame Generation, which is known to introduce input latency.

Moreover, the system requirements for Monster Hunter Wilds closely align with those of Dragon’s Dogma 2, raising some concerns, particularly regarding CPU performance.

Dragon’s Dogma 2, especially on PC, proves to be highly demanding on the CPU, making it challenging to secure a stable 60 FPS, even after the latest updates. The situation is not much better on consoles, which do not primarily aim for 60 FPS.

Given Wilds’ system requirements, it’s evident that the game will place considerable strain on CPU resources. Additionally, Capcom’s reliance on technologies like Frame Generation and upscalers to even reach a playable framerate at a 1080p resolution is concerning. Fortunately, there is still ample time for developers to optimize the game ahead of its release.

Monster Hunter Wilds is set to be launched on February 28, 2024, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows PC (via Steam).
