The latest release from Konami and Bloober Team, Silent Hill 2, is packed with intriguing puzzles that enhance the gameplay experience. Some of these challenges are necessary for advancing the narrative, while others lead to amusing easter eggs or alternate endings, such as the amusing Dog ending. Additionally, many of these puzzles feature multiple layers, compelling players to stay observant and engaged with their environment.
What distinguishes this remake from the original 2001 version is the notable increase in difficulty. This change is particularly evident as you explore the eerie corridors of Brookhaven Hospital. In the reception area, you’ll encounter a padlock that requires you to solve a puzzle to obtain the code and progress. Below is a comprehensive guide to help you tackle this puzzle effectively.
Decoding the Padlock in Silent Hill 2
Your initial clue for the padlock code is located in the nurse’s memo as well as in the lobby’s photographs. To start, break through the window to enter exam room two on the ground floor. From there, access exam room three through the adjoining door to find the nurse’s memo. This memo contains a hint stating: “Once you’re in the lobby, just look around. Now remember. Nurses. Doctors. Trees.”
Next, return to the entrance of the hospital and examine all the photographs displayed on the lobby’s wall. The padlock code is relatively straightforward—you just need to tally the elements referenced in the nurse’s memo: the total number of nurses plus the total number of doctors plus the total number of trees.
Upon scrutinizing the photographs, you should identify seven nurses, two doctors, and four trees. Your final padlock code is therefore 724. Input this code into the padlock at the reception desk to obtain the key leading to the basement. You can now proceed to the basement and use this key to unlock the basement door, allowing you to continue your journey in Silent Hill 2.
If you prefer an easier route, you’re welcome to input the code directly without having to collect the memo or analyze all the photographs.
