“Rethink your life” – UFC star slams “grown a**, childless” Sean Strickland for “dog” jibe at Dave Portnoy
Sean Strickland, a former UFC middleweight champion, has faced criticism from a fellow UFC fighter for his recent comments about those who care for and have dogs as companions.
In recent years, Strickland’s socio-political statements have gained widespread attention, with many criticizing them as intentionally divisive and provocative.
Despite receiving backlash, Strickland’s recent tweets have specifically called out animal caregivers who have a strong affection for their dogs. The 33-year-old argued that, like himself, not having children can lead to a sense of incompleteness in adult men’s lives. He emphasized that a desire for or experience of family is crucial for one to fully embody masculinity.
Additionally, Strickland suggested that the United States of America was established by exceptional individuals who valiantly battled in global conflicts, possessed a strong sense of patriotism, and held religious beliefs. He asserted that the current state of America is characterized by men who prioritize caring for their dogs over living fulfilling lives. He went on to derogatorily refer to them as “Boys with dog children.”
In the meantime, ‘Tarzan’ made it clear that he does not hold any animosity towards Dave Portnoy, the founder of Barstool Sports and a fan of MMA. He commended Portnoy for his apparent political views. However, he pointed out that individuals like Portnoy tend to fill a void in their lives by adopting dogs instead of having children.
Strickland’s tweet read as follows:
“My girl watches the tiktok sadly, she keeps showing me Miss peaches, the barstool sports guys dog. And I asked my girl “does this man have kids”no. Let me tell you all something if you’re a grown a** childless man obsessed about a dog you gotta rethink your life.. rich or poor.”
Michael Chiesa, a seasoned UFC fighter with experience in both the lightweight and welterweight divisions, has recently spoken out about Sean Strickland. The winner of TUF Season 15’s lightweight tournament, known as ‘Maverick’, implied that Strickland, age 33, does not have any children.
In response to ‘Tarzan’s’ tweet urging Strickland to reconsider his stance on dog guardians, the 36-year-old American UFC welterweight wrote the following:
“If you’re a grown a** childless man hating on someone for loving a dog… you gotta rethink your life. Rich or poor.”

Could Sean Strickland be the next UFC title contender?
Michael Chiesa’s last fight was in July 2023, where he suffered a first-round submission loss to Kevin Holland. On the other hand, Sean Strickland was defeated by Dricus Du Plessis in a close split decision in Jan. 2024. Despite losing his UFC middleweight title to du Plessis, UFC CEO Dana White expressed disagreement with the judges’ decision.
Despite Sean Strickland’s claim of not prioritizing the UFC title, he has expressed a desire to have a rematch with ‘Stillknocks’. The UFC has yet to announce the next fight for either athlete.
Additionally, Dana White has foreseen a potential future bout between Strickland and Du Plessis inside the octagon, although it may not be an immediate rematch. White shared his thoughts, stating:
“Eventually, these two are going to end up fighting again, I’m sure. But we’re not thinking about an immediate rematch right now.”
