Embarking on your journey in Path of Exile 2 invites a world of possibilities for character builds that suit your unique play style. Throughout your adventure, you’ll likely find yourself experimenting with various builds to determine the most effective strategies for success.
As you progress through the Acts, you may encounter challenging spikes in difficulty that require you to reevaluate your character’s skills, gear, and support abilities. It’s essential to continually upgrade your gear and tweak your passive skill tree to maintain your competitive edge.
How to Unlock Passive Skill Resetting

In Path of Exile 2, the sole NPC responsible for allowing you to reset your passive skills is introduced early in your journey. To gain this ability, you must first complete the Sorrow Among Stones quest located in Act 1, which is vital for unlocking the Hooded One.
This quest will guide you to the Cemetery of the Eternals, where you must battle through a sea of enemies. Your objective is to conquer the Mausoleum of the Praetor, the Tomb of the Consort, and ultimately confront Lachlann of Endless Lament in the graveyard.

Within your path lie two mini-bosses—Praetor Draven and his consort, Asinia—along with Lachlann, making for three formidable foes during the Sorrow Among Stones quest. Ensure you are adequately equipped with robust armor and weapons to navigate through these challenging encounters.
How to Reset Passive Skills

After defeating the bosses in the cemetery, return to the Clearfell Encampment and speak with Una, who is situated in a small shack on the left side of the village. Present her with the ring obtained from Count Lachlann as proof of your victory to finalize the Sorrow Among Stones quest.
With the ring’s power, Una will resurrect the Hooded One, granting you the opportunity to reset your passive skills and identify gear without using Scrolls of Wisdom. The Hooded One remains accessible across all encampments throughout your adventures, providing a constant resource for skill adjustments.
However, this service comes at a price—resetting skills costs 866 currency units each. Given the extensive nature of the passive skill tree, the expenses can quickly escalate, making it crucial to manage your resources wisely. Accumulate funds before engaging in significant alterations to your character’s build.

To initiate a skill reset, simply select the skill you wish to remove from your tree. If refunding is possible, you’ll be prompted to either Apply Refund or Cancel. Selecting Apply Refund will remove the skill and deduct the corresponding cost from your total currency, granting you a skill point to allocate elsewhere.
Keep in mind, the passive skill tree functions like a chain; you can only unlock adjacent skills if their prerequisites are already learned. Consequently, you must reverse through the tree as you refund skills, which means you cannot remove skills located within the middle of a chain unless all prerequisites are first removed.

For skills that provide +5 points to Dexterity, Strength, or Intelligence, consider switching rather than removing them entirely. This process can be conducted even while the skills retain their chain connections, allowing for flexibility in reshaping your build without the full cost of refunds.
Resetting passive skills can be costly; should you find yourself short on funds, consider embarking on a few farm runs to gather sellable equipment. While it’s tempting to hold onto items for the Reforging Bench, selling gear is an efficient way to replenish your currency reserves swiftly.
