Report: Significant Siri AI Enhancement Expected with iOS 26.4, Postponed to Spring 2026

Challenges Facing Apple’s AI Initiatives

Apple’s venture into artificial intelligence, known as Apple Intelligence, has faced its share of obstacles, leading to considerable disappointment among users and industry observers alike. While the majority of its features were released as scheduled, they still struggle to compete with advanced offerings from competitors like Samsung’s Galaxy AI.

Delayed Enhancements to Siri

A major overhaul of Siri, the company’s voice-activated assistant, was announced during the WWDC 2024 event, yet it remains unavailable. To mask these setbacks, Apple has been introducing several minor updates. During this year’s conference, Apple’s software engineering chief, Craig Federighi, indicated that significant improvements to Siri are still in progress but have been postponed to 2026.

Anticipated Launch Timeline for Siri Upgrades

Recent insights from Bloomberg’s renowned tech journalist, Mark Gurman, suggest that Apple is gearing up to introduce the Siri upgrades alongside iOS 26.4. Sources have indicated that technical challenges and internal disagreements have contributed to these delays.

Expected Features of the New Siri

The anticipated Siri enhancements promise to significantly boost the assistant’s intelligence and utility by employing Apple’s proprietary AI. Users can expect Siri to better interpret the content displayed on their iPhone screens, providing tailored responses and executing complex, multi-step tasks based on contextual cues.

Timeline of Siri’s Evolution

Initially, the Siri upgrade was set to coincide with the launch of the iPhone 16 series. However, this timeline was subsequently pushed to spring 2025, then to May with iOS 18.5. As it stands, it appears that the new projections point towards March 2026 for the eventual rollout with iOS 26.4.

Internal Challenges and Leadership in Siri Development

Reports indicate that the integration of Siri’s previous architecture with newer AI frameworks has posed significant hurdles, resulting in persistent bugs and performance issues. The initiative is spearheaded by Mike Rockwell, the creator of the Vision Pro headset, in collaboration with Craig Federighi, aiming to establish a new paradigm for Siri’s capabilities.

Innovative Projects on the Horizon

In addition to the Siri upgrades, Apple is allegedly developing a chatbot-like application known as “Knowledge.”This project is overseen by Robby Walker, although detailed information about its functionalities remains limited.
