Unveiling Apple’s Foldable iPhone: What We Know So Far
Recent developments have shed light on Apple’s highly anticipated foldable iPhone. Initially projected for a 2026 release, new insights indicate that Apple has enlisted Samsung to manufacture display panels for this innovative device.
However, some reports suggest that Apple might delay the launch until 2027 to address concerns regarding display creases. Fortunately, it appears that Apple has made significant progress toward resolving this issue. Recent information from the South Korean publication ET News reveals that Samsung is on the cusp of completing a dedicated production line for Apple’s foldable iPhone display.
Samsung’s Production Line for Apple
Located at Samsung’s A3 plant in Asan, South Korea, this production line, initiated in 2023, is nearing completion. Samsung has been designated as the exclusive supplier of foldable OLED displays for Apple, a partnership that is expected to last for several years.
The new line is reportedly capable of producing approximately 1.25 million foldable panels each month, translating to an annual output of around 15 million units. This production rate significantly exceeds Apple’s projected initial order of six to eight million foldable iPhones within the first year.
Features of the Upcoming Foldable iPhone
Anticipation mounts for Apple’s first foldable iPhone, expected to debut in 2026, featuring an inward-folding design. Speculation suggests that the display will measure around 7 inches and incorporate sixth-generation glass, enhancing durability and user experience. Industry insiders believe Apple might unveil this device alongside its standard iPhone models next autumn.
Moreover, rumors indicate that Apple plans to showcase a groundbreaking display technology that hasn’t been featured in any other foldable device. A key focus for Apple has been enhancing the durability of the device, which is said to include a metallic glass hinge designed to withstand bending.
Innovative Camera Design and Pricing
In another first for Apple, the foldable iPhone is expected to boast a combination of a punch-hole and an under-display camera, pushing the boundaries of smartphone design. As for pricing, a tentative estimate places the cost at around $2, 000 or potentially higher, reflecting the advanced technology and innovation that Apple aims to deliver.
