This time, however, the Replacer took over some of the most cherished GIFs from fans. This shift resulted in a day full of Replacer GIFs trending on GIPHY, creating a buzz across various social media platforms. Activision’s VP of Consumer Marketing Discusses the Surprising Presence of The Replacer on the Internet
With the recent collaboration involving Mutiny, Activision, and GIPHY, fans of Black Ops 6 saw the special edition Replacer GIFs take over GIPHY’s trending section on October 25, 2024. The primary objective of this marketing initiative was to reintroduce the Replacer, all while engaging the COD community in a humorous manner.
Noah Elchen, Executive Creative Director at Mutiny, shared insights into how GIPHY’s partnership allowed them to offer the Black Ops 6 fanbase an inventive mode of online interaction through the much-loved comical character.

In the production of these detailed and fan-favorite GIFs, Activision and Mutiny utilized contemporary tools, including props, rear projection, and specialized lighting to bring Peter Stromrare (The Replacer) to life.
GIPHY’s Client Lead, Shira Lasoff, expressed enthusiasm about integrating the Replacer into everyday conversations among fans globally, thereby enhancing connection through Call of Duty content.
“With The Replacer featuring in the internet’s favorite GIFs, we’ve developed a novel method to weave Call of Duty into everyday discussions and unite users and fans through engaging, shareable content.”
With the Replacer taking centre stage for a day among popular GIFs, excitement builds in the Black Ops 6 community regarding his next appearance. However, Activision has yet to disclose any specific details about the Replacer’s future appearances.
Nevertheless, Matt Gilhooley, VP of Consumer Marketing at Activision, highlighted the intriguing aspect of the campaign, which enabled the Replacer to pop up anywhere online at any time, allowing fans to engage in the launch festivities with a comedic flair.
“Although Activision hasn’t provided specific details on the Replacer’s next appearance, it is fascinating how the campaign allowed for his versatility online, enabling the fanbase to joyfully partake in the promotional activities.”
