Renowned artist Lee. K unveils new oil painting of BTS Jimin as a part of ‘Denial of Language Series’

Famous South Korean artist Lee K. recently revealed his newest piece, an oil painting featuring BTS’ Jimin, as a part of his prestigious ‘Denial of Language Series’.

On April 4, 2024, Lee K. shared this artwork on their Instagram account, @leekillust, which has captured the hearts of BTS fans all around the world with its stunning depiction of the beloved member.

The oil painting portrays the idol using a color scheme of blue, purple, and black.

Lee K. has frequently found inspiration in Jimin for his artwork, not just on this occasion. The Serendipity singer has continuously served as a muse for Lee K., who has crafted numerous pieces that capture the singer’s irresistible charm.

Lee K.’s captivating grayscale portraits, created with a mix of oil paint, charcoal, pencil, and ink, have gained immense recognition and propelled him to Instagram stardom.

Lee K.’s artistic journey has been defined by his steadfast dedication to his ‘Denial of Language’ philosophy of illustration. His artwork delves into the intricacies of human emotion and expression, often incorporating Jimin as a central theme.

The visionary artist’s reputation was further solidified with the 2019 solo exhibition, “Absence of Language,”hosted at the Dangnim Art Museum.

During an October 2022 interview with KOCIS magazine, a publication under the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, Lee K. discussed his deep connection with a member of BTS and the inspiration behind his artwork.

The artist expressed,

“I felt that Jimin had a special charm to himself. His face has a unique characteristic in which the eastern and the western charm and male and female beauty coexist.”

During a separate interview with UPI Korea in 2023, artist Lee. K stated,

“Some misunderstand the motivation of drawing a celebrity’s face, but I draw Jimin because of his unrivaled face. His face is as touching as BTS’ music. His face encompasses both East and West & is coveted by any artist”

The artist intended to convey that the idol’s combination of Eastern and Western beauty, along with his complex character, continuously inspired him.

Lee K.’s unique incorporation of a BTS member in his artwork has struck a chord with fans, as his portraits continue to attract large audiences at renowned art exhibitions around the globe. His boundary-pushing artistic methods, spanning from drawing and painting to tattooing and sculpting, have garnered him widespread recognition within the art community.

Although Lee K. only entered the field in 2017, they have rapidly gained recognition and have been named one of the Top 22 artists to watch in 2022 by Singulart.

For those unfamiliar, Singulart is an online premium shop that focuses on contemporary art and designer furniture. Founded in 2017 and based in Paris, France, it caters to a wide range of painters, photographers, sculptors, and furniture designers, with a portfolio of more than 10,000 artists. In 2020, SINGULART notably partnered with Google as a participant in the Google Accelerator program.

As Lee K.’s latest masterpiece nears its release, fans are eagerly awaiting its debut. His oil painting of the idol continues to enthrall audiences with its stunning beauty and profound emotional impact.

As of December 2023, Jimin is serving in the military alongside his bandmate Jungkook. They are both taking advantage of the buddy system, which enables individuals from the same province to enlist together.

All seven members of BTS, including RM, Jin, Suga, J-hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook, have enlisted in the military and are scheduled to make a group comeback in June 2025.
