After a lengthy 13-year hiatus, Remedy Entertainment has finally delivered a new installment in the Alan Wake series. According to the company’s latest quarterly earnings report, the game is nearing profitability, having successfully recouped “most”of its development and marketing costs.

Remedy stated, “At the end of the quarter, Alan Wake 2 had recouped most of its development and marketing expenses.” Until this point, the company’s royalties stemmed solely from sales of their previous titles, including Control, the original Alan Wake, and its standalone expansion. However, this analysis reflects revenue data only up to September 2024.

The game’s recent expansion, The Lake House, launched on October 22 across multiple platforms, potentially boosting sales further. Earlier this year, Remedy confirmed that Alan Wake II achieved remarkable sales figures, surpassing 1.3 million copies, making it the studio’s fastest-selling title to date.

Future Projects and Self-Publishing Initiatives

In addition to discussing Alan Wake 2’s success, Remedy’s report highlights their commitment to self-publishing in upcoming projects. A co-financing partnership with Annapurna has set the stage for Control 2, which is expected to enter full production by 2025. The studio is also exploring opportunities for movie and TV adaptations set within their unique supernatural universe.

Recently, Remedy fully unveiled a new cooperative shooter titled FBC: Firebreak, positioned within the Control universe. The studio categorizes this as a “mid-priced” game, slated to launch in subscription services for both Xbox and PlayStation platforms simultaneously. Notably, both FBC: Firebreak and Control 2 will be self-published by Remedy.

Max Payne Remakes in the Works

Besides the current projects, Remedy is also working on remakes of the beloved Max Payne 1 and 2. Published by IP owner Rockstar Games, further details about these highly anticipated remakes remain scarce, although it has been confirmed that they are now in full production.

Financial Performance

The earnings report further revealed Remedy’s revenue reach for the quarter at €17.9 million, marking a staggering increase of 128.6% year-over-year. This impressive financial growth underscores Remedy’s successful strategies and ongoing projects as they advance in innovative directions.
