Astro Bot clinched Game of the Year at the prestigious Game Awards 2024, further solidifying its status in the gaming landscape.

Astro Bot garnered nominations in seven categories during the Game Awards, emerging victorious in four, including the coveted Game of the Year. The title also won Best Game Direction, Best Family Game, and Best Action/Adventure, distinguishing itself among fierce contenders like Black Myth: Wukong and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. According to IGN, Fils-Aime expressed his views, stating, “I have to admit it, Astro Bot almost outdid Nintendo at its own game.”This statement highlights the profound influence that Nintendo has had on the game’s design, a fact acknowledged by Astro Bot’s director, Nicolas Doucet, who attributed his inspiration to the platforming legends of his youth.

Despite potential surprise at Astro Bot’s success, its impressive track record in award shows is undeniable. With over 100 Game of the Year awards, it has set a record as the most-awarded platformer in gaming history, surpassing the previous title held by It Takes Two. While it may not yet match the staggering totals of titles like Baldur’s Gate 3 or The Last of Us Part 2, which boast 288 and 326 accolades respectively, the total remains remarkable.

Astro Bot is dedicated to maintaining a vibrant gaming experience by continuously updating its content. The game recently introduced several Speedrun levels, with the latest unveiled at the PlayStation Tournaments XP event. There are even whispers of additional content on the horizon. A now-deleted tweet from Arrowhead Game Studios CEO Johan Pilestedt hinted at the inclusion of new bots, including one inspired by the Tekken character Heihachi. However, fans are encouraged to approach these rumors cautiously, as no official confirmation has been provided by Team Asobi or Sony.
