Dear Hyeri, featuring Shin Hye-sun and Lee Jin-wook, premiered its first two episodes on September 23 and 24 on ENA. This intriguing drama tells the tale of Joo Eun-ho, portrayed by Shin Hye-sun, a seasoned announcer struggling to leave a mark in her 14-year career.
In contrast, her former boyfriend and colleague Jung Hyun-oh, played by Lee Jin-wook, quickly gains fame as an announcer. After 4 pm, however, Joo Eun-ho leads a double life as Hyeri.
Hyeri is an optimistic parking attendant who has shifted her identity after breaking up with Jung Hyun-oh, following their eight-year relationship, and the mysterious disappearance of her sister. This new persona allows her to navigate life differently.
Hyeri harbors feelings for Kang Ju-yeon, played by Kang Hoon, a rookie announcer who falls for Hyeri at first glance. Will Joo Eun-ho come to terms with her past amid the complex dynamics of her relationships and her struggle with dissociative identity disorder?
In the pilot episode, Joo Eun-ho and Jung Hyun-oh become partner announcers for a morning news segment, while Hyeri quietly admires her crush, Kang Ju-yeon.
Dear Hyeri Episodes 1 & 2 Recap: Hyeri Discovers Her Identity as Joo Eun-ho
In Episode 1 of Dear Hyeri, Joo Eun-ho’s team leader urges her to join an afternoon news show. Despite her insistence on continuing with her morning radio slot, Jung Hyun-oh offers to step in for her. However, the team leader insists on a female co-announcer.
As Joo Eun-ho continues rejecting the opportunity, Jung Hyun-oh convinces her to reconsider. Following their discussion, Joo Eun-ho and Jung Hyun-oh end up co-hosting the show after it is rescheduled to the morning.
During this time, Joo Eun-ho invites her colleague Moon Ji-on (Kang Sang-joon) out on a date, but despite his affection, she is still emotionally tied to Jung Hyun-oh. Their weekend plans are derailed when Jung Hyun-oh assigns her a crucial weekend story requiring extensive coverage.
Despite the challenges, Moon Ji-on chooses to accompany Joo Eun-ho for the assignment, and after dropping her home, he confesses his feelings and kisses her.
Hyeri’s character emerges midway through Episode 1, where she works at the media agency’s parking lot, harboring feelings for Kang Ju-yeon while saving a spot for him. She also seeks therapy to address her memory lapses.
During an incident at the office, Hyeri assists Kang Ju-yeon during an emergency, unexpectedly kissing him before retreating. Later, her therapy session reveals she has dissociative identity disorder, understanding that Joo Eun-ho is her other self.
As Episode 1 concludes, Jung Hyun-oh encounters Joo Eun-ho, but she claims she is not Joo Eun-ho, raising questions about her identity.
The second episode resumes with Joo Eun-ho returning to her routine, running into Jung Hyun-oh, who questions her strange behavior from the previous night. She has no recollection of what transpired. Meanwhile, Moon Ji-on avoids her, assuming her rejection is due to Jung Hyun-oh.
Hyeri later confronts Kang Ju-yeon, feeling distressed about the kiss they shared. Realizing her mistake, she sends him a gift along with a letter expressing her feelings.
In a pivotal scene, Kang Ju-yeon visits Hyeri’s cabin, intrigued by her, and they find themselves at his house, where Hyeri eventually falls asleep. Unbeknownst to him, she is still concealing her identity.
The next morning, Hyeri wakes up as Joo Eun-ho, confused about her presence in Kang Ju-yeon’s house, and leaves discreetly. Back at work, she is assigned another challenging story but faces a terrifying situation in a refrigerated trailer, encountering a dead man with no way out.
In a moment of desperation, she recalls Jung Hyun-oh’s advice about independence and hesitates before considering calling for help. Fortunately, a staff member arrives and assists her, revealing that Jung Hyun-oh has come to her rescue.
The second episode of Dear Hyeri concludes with Joo Eun-ho questioning Jung Hyun-oh about his timely arrival, setting the stage for further developments in this riveting drama.
