Rebellion CEO Declares Atomfall’s Game Pass Launch a Major Success

Atomfall’s Impressive Performance on Game Pass

Rebellion’s latest title, Atomfall, has vastly exceeded expectations by attracting over two million players within its first month of release. The game’s availability on Xbox Game Pass has played a significant role in its rapid growth, as highlighted by Rebellion’s CEO, Jason Kingsley, in a recent interview with GamesIndustry.biz.

Praising Partnership with Microsoft

In his remarks, Kingsley expressed his appreciation for Microsoft’s collaborative approach. He stated,

“It’s been a huge success. Microsoft has been a fantastic partner to work with, they’ve really leaned in to helping us. They brought their skills and their scale to bear on our small project, and it’s done really, really well for them, so they got a good deal, we got a good deal out of it as well.”

Enhancing Discovery Through Game Pass

Kingsley also articulated how Game Pass serves as a vital platform for discovering new titles. He explained that when players try out a game on the service and enjoy it, they often share their experiences through social media, saying, “I found this game on Game Pass, I really enjoyed it, you should have a go.” This organic word-of-mouth promotion can lead to increased sales from players who may not be Game Pass subscribers but wish to join the conversation about the game.

Balancing Risks and Market Reach

Discussing the financial implications of this partnership, Kingsley noted that while Game Pass mitigates risk by ensuring a baseline income, it might also lead to audience cannibalization. He remarked,

“You could argue that all the hardcore are on Game Pass, and they’re the ones that might buy a new IP like this, so therefore, are you cannibalising one section of the audience? And I think, perhaps, yes, a little bit. But what you gain from that cost is disproportionate.”

Recent Updates and Future Prospects

Recently, Atomfall received a bug-fixing update aimed at enhancing player experience. Additionally, insights from Chris Wray provide further perspectives on this British post-apocalyptic game.
