Mojang Studios recently hosted Minecraft Live 2024, where they unveiled exciting new content for the popular sandbox game. While many anticipated the announcement of the next major update, version 1.22, the developers instead focused on two smaller game drops that will introduce fresh features. During the live event, they showcased the new Pale Garden biome and the intriguing Creaking mob.

Mojang’s Shift Toward Game Drops Over Major Updates

Prior to Minecraft Live, Mojang Studios announced a significant change in its update schedule. In an official blog post, the developers detailed their strategy of releasing multiple smaller updates throughout the year instead of a few major updates.

These game drops will offer fewer features compared to larger updates but will be more frequent, allowing players to enjoy new content regularly.

Mojang has not disclosed whether a major 1.22 update will be released or if the focus will remain on smaller drops. However, during the live event, Jens Bergensten mentioned that these game drops will replace the traditional summer updates.

The Pale Garden and Creaking Will Likely Be Part of a Smaller Game Drop

During Minecraft Live 2024, Mojang Studios confirmed its commitment to releasing game drops rather than concentrating solely on major updates. The developers indicated that the bundles and hardcore mode for Bedrock Edition will be included in an upcoming game drop, while the Pale Garden biome and Creaking mob are expected to debut in a subsequent drop.

Referring back to the blog post about the new update strategy, Mojang shared that it had previously experimented with smaller game drops, such as in the 1.20.5 Armored Paws update, which introduced armadillos and wolf armor.

Since these smaller updates did not alter the second number in the versioning, it is likely that the upcoming releases featuring the Pale Garden and Creaking may also retain the version number of 1.21 rather than moving to 1.22.

When Could the Minecraft 1.22 Update Be Announced?

Although Mojang is focusing on smaller drops, it’s possible that news about the next major update could be announced soon.

In the blog post discussing the future of Minecraft updates, the developers indicated that their annual live event will now be conducted in two parts. The recent event was the first part, and the second part could occur in early 2025. Thus, players should anticipate hearing updates regarding 1.22 during Mojang’s next live event.
