Reasons Hulu No Longer Offers Disney+ as an Add-On: An Explanation

Hulu, a leading streaming service in the United States, has officially removed the option to add Disney+ to its subscription packages. This add-on was previously popular as it allowed Disney+ to tap into Hulu’s extensive audience, providing subscribers with a more affordable way to access content from both platforms, helping them manage their monthly expenses effectively.

However, this feature allowed users to cancel their Disney+ add-on without affecting their primary Hulu subscription, which resulted in a noticeable decline in Disney’s customer base. To encourage more users to move towards their Bundle offerings and simplify their subscription choices, Disney made the strategic decision to eliminate the Disney+ add-on option.

This change is seen as a tactic to boost subscriptions for the Disney Bundle and enhance overall revenues.

Before this change, users could seamlessly add Disney+ to their Hulu subscription for just an additional $2 per month. Going forward, Disney+ will no longer be available as an add-on; instead, viewers interested in Disney+ content must opt for one of the new Disney Bundle plans starting at a competitive price of $10.99 monthly.

Current subscribers with the Disney+ add-on can rest assured, as their plans will transition to the Disney Bundle Duo Basic at no extra charge, ensuring uninterrupted service. These customers will continue enjoying their content without any service interruptions.

Moreover, those who originally subscribed to both services at a promotional rate will find their existing rates unchanged, with no hidden fees.

Conversely, new and returning Hulu subscribers will be unable to select the Disney+ add-on, with the most viable alternative being the Disney Bundle Duo Basic plan, which delivers similar benefits at a comparable price point.

As of October 17, 2024, Disney has implemented a price increase across its various subscription options, including bundle configurations. Under these new rates, the combination of Hulu with the Disney+ add-on would have totaled $11.99 per month.

Currently, subscribers can access the same services through the Disney Bundle Duo Basic plan (with advertisements) for just $10.99 monthly, which is one dollar less. For those seeking an ad-free experience, the Disney Bundle also features the Duo Premium plan at $19.99 per month.

Additionally, the Disney Bundle Trio Basic plan provides access to Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ with ads for a total cost of $16.99 per month, while the Trio Premium plan (with ad-free Disney+ and Hulu, and ESPN+ with ads) is available for $26.99 monthly.

The Disney Bundle featuring Disney+, Hulu, and Max (all with ads) is priced at $16.99, while the ad-free variant comes in at $29.99 monthly.

To discontinue their subscription to the Disney Bundle Duo Basic plan, customers must individually cancel their existing plans. This complicates the cancellation process, which is intended to reduce subscriber churn, ultimately helping the company retain customers for longer periods and increase revenue sustainably.
