Reasons for Big Brother Not Aired on October 2, 2024: Exploring the Revised Finale Schedule

The finale of Big Brother season 26 aired on Sunday, September 29, 2024. Episode 34 featured the highly competitive Head of Household (HoH) challenge, where houseguests fought for the illustrious HoH title. Makensy emerged victorious, outshining her fellow contestants.

Following her win, she nominated Kimo and Rubina for the imminent elimination. The episode concluded with these nominations, but avid fans watching the Live Feeds on Paramount+ saw that Makensy continued her success by clinching the Power of Veto (PoV) as well. Despite this triumph, she chose not to use the PoV, leaving Kimo and Rubina vulnerable for eviction.

Anticipation built among viewers for the next episode, originally set to air on October 2, 2024, which was intended to feature the Power of Veto competition and subsequent ceremony. However, instead of the expected episode, an encore of The Summit premiere was broadcast.

Starting October 2, 2024, Big Brother will no longer air episodes on Wednesdays for the remainder of the season. This scheduling adjustment was necessary due to a conflict with CBS’ new show, The Summit, premiering on Wednesdays at 9:30 pm ET, immediately after Survivor. For the past two weeks, Big Brother occupied the post-Survivor 9:30 pm slot but will now make way for the latest reality offering.

When will Big Brother season 26 air its next episode?

Previously, Big Brother showcased its Wednesday episodes at 8 pm ET for the initial ten weeks. However, in light of Survivor season 47’s premiere on September 18, 2024, it was shifted to the 9:30 pm time slot. Recently, due to the debut of The Summit, Big Brother found itself without a slot, leading to the cancellation of Wednesday shows and a reduction from three weekly episodes to two.

The next episode is set to air on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at 8 pm ET. This special two-hour episode will feature the Power of Veto competition followed by the live eviction. The following episode will air on Sunday, October 6, 2024, at 10 pm ET, right after the American Music Awards 50th Anniversary special. The grand two-hour finale is scheduled for Sunday, October 13, 2024, at 9 pm ET.

Big Brother had to adjust its broadcasting schedule predominantly due to a late premiere in comparison to previous seasons, which typically commenced in early July or late June. Consequently, it encroached upon time slots allocated for other shows.

Traditionally, Big Brother concluded prior to the airing of Survivor, except for certain finales that aired directly after Survivor’s premiere. Minor schedule modifications were made to facilitate this. Notably, the All-Stars season in 2020 retained its regular release day and time due to Survivor’s filming hiatus caused by the pandemic.

In contrast, season 25 of the CBS reality show extended for 100 days and went into November due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, merely shifting the Veto episodes to Tuesday nights. However, season 26 faced unique challenges.

In just a day, fans can look forward to the iconic BB Comics Veto competition, where Makensy will be crowned the winner. Following this, the final five contestants—Makensy, Kimo, Chelsie, Rubina, and Cam—will face a live eviction, confirming who advances to the final four.

Each houseguest will strategize to eliminate their competitors leading up to the finale week, all vying for the title of champion and the impressive $750,000 prize.

Big Brother season 26 airs Sundays and Thursdays on CBS.
