Reasons Behind Julie and Todd Chrisley’s Sentencing: Charges Analyzed as Todd Allegedly Loses Prison Employment

Todd Chrisley, the prominent figure from Chrisley Knows Best, is currently incarcerated in a federal facility in Florida due to charges of tax evasion and bank fraud. He is serving his sentence alongside his wife, Julie, and has recently been stripped of his responsibilities at the prison chapel. This development was revealed by his attorney, Jay Surgent, who indicated that Todd had been working closely with a chaplain at FPC Pensacola to help organize religious services.

Yet, prison officials have decided to relieve him of this role. On October 24, Surgent disclosed to People Magazine that Todd’s removal stemmed from accusations of his interactions with inmates participating in the prison’s Residential Drug Abuse Program. Following this dismissal, Todd lost access to his small office in the chapel, expressing his sentiments in the following way:

“Todd Chrisley is quite disheartened and troubled about no longer being able to assist in organizing religious services at Pensacola, catering to Christian, Jewish, and Muslim congregants.”

Surgent added that Chrisley responded by asserting that he felt he had been removed “without cause,” but he remains steadfast in his belief that divine intervention will ultimately benefit him, Julie, and their family.

Todd and Julie Chrisley were indicted in 2019, facing a total of 12 felony charges which included conspiracy to commit fraud against the government and conspiracy to engage in bank fraud. They received a 12-year prison sentence, which was later modified.

Todd and Julie Chrisley commenced their sentences in January 2023

After their arrest for various offenses, Todd and Julie Chrisley were initially sentenced to 12 years in prison. However, this sentence was reduced to seven years in September 2023, following their incarceration that began in January 2023.

However, the situation took a turn in September 2024, when a judge reassessed the case and deemed the original sentence just, reinstating Julie Chrisley’s prison term to 84 months.

Pertaining to their criminal charges, reports from People Magazine highlighted that the Chrisleys allegedly evaded nearly $2 million in taxes between 2008 and 2016. They were accused of utilizing their production company to hide around $1 million and misrepresenting numerous assets. Their trial commenced in May 2022 and spanned three weeks.

Presently, Todd and Julie are serving their sentences at separate federal facilities. Todd is located at the Federal Correctional Institution (FPI) Pensacola in Florida, while Julie is at a federal prison in Lexington, Kentucky, before being transferred to the Federal Correctional Institution Marianna in Florida.

In light of Todd’s recent discharge from his prison position, a source associated with the Federal Bureau of Prisons communicated with TMZ and clarified:

“We do not disclose any details concerning the conditions of confinement for any individual in custody, including their job assignments, due to privacy concerns.”

Best known for the reality television series, Chrisley Knows Best, Todd and Julie showcased their family dynamics with their five children—Lindsie, Kyle, Chase, Savannah, and Grayson. The series, which aired from 2014 to 2023, was followed by a spin-off, Growing Up Chrisley, which chronicled the lives of their children.
