The second episode of Season 5 of I Am A Killer was released on Netflix on October 16, 2024. This episode delves into the tragic story of 16-year-old Christian Sims, who took the life of his grandmother, Annie Lois Sims, in December 2014. Titled Lost Innocence, this episode reveals that Christian acted against Annie due to a history of severe sexual, physical, and emotional abuse he suffered as a child.
According to Netflix’s official description of the episode:
“Young love takes a dark turn when Ashley Morrison’s plan to run away with her boyfriend, Christian Sims, leads to the shocking murder of his grandmother.”
Christian Sims’ Fatal Actions Against Annie Lois Sims
In 2014, Christian Sims fatally shot his grandmother, Annie Lois Sims, in her home. After firing multiple shots, he shot her again in the back of the head to ensure she was deceased. Four hours later, Annie’s husband stumbled upon her dead body, discovering the devastating aftermath.
Reportedly, Christian’s original intent was to kill both grandparents, but he encountered Annie alone at that moment, seizing the opportunity to commit the murder. Following the incident, Christian and his girlfriend, Ashley, fled the scene in the victim’s car.
The duo was apprehended a day later, found miles away from where the crime took place. When questioned about the motive for the murder, Christian made a chilling revelation during the show:
“I shot my grandmother because she had beaten and molested me as a child… I wouldn’t have carried it out for any other reason. Simply put, while I didn’t plan it, if I had, it would have unfolded quite differently. I’m just being honest.”
Throughout the episode of I Am A Killer, Christian also recounted his traumatic childhood experiences and the abusive relationship he had with his grandmother. His feelings of resentment were evident when he stated:
“Pardon my French but screw it… You’re not supposed to speak ill of the dead, but my grandmother was the most toxic person I’ve ever known. She mentally, physically, and sexually abused me. She would come into my room late at night and hurt me in ways that were truly sadistic.”
“It’s shocking to me to hear Christian say that his grandmother abused him.” – Prosecutor Jill Drake
After his arrest, Christian pleaded guilty to the charges and received a 35-year prison sentence. Ashley Morrison, his partner in the crime, also accepted a plea deal and was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
Initially, Christian did not disclose the abuse he endured during his childhood. When asked about his silence, he responded:
“I didn’t share the past abuse because I didn’t believe anyone would take me seriously. No amount of explanation could convince others. They weren’t there to witness it. To be completely honest, I feel no remorse for her death; in my view, she deserved far worse than what happened. I’m just frustrated that I was the one who did it.”
In response, Prosecutor Jill Drake offered her perspective on the matter:
“Had that information been presented, we would have pursued a deeper investigation. Prosecutors aim to seek justice. Nevertheless, he pointed a gun at her and shot her in the face.”
