In the vibrant world of Overwatch 2, Support heroes play a pivotal role in shaping the dynamics of team compositions. Beyond their versatile utility, these heroes are primarily recognized for their healing capabilities, which often make or break matches.
As stated in the latest Patch Notes released on November 25th, the roster now boasts 11 Support heroes. While this number may seem modest in comparison to the Damage category, it provides players with a range of options to strategize effectively.
Each hero brings a unique set of skills and mechanics to the table, demanding varying levels of expertise to excel, particularly in Ranked or Competitive modes. As a dedicated Support player with substantial experience in the mid-high Gold tier, I present my rankings of each Support hero, highlighting their key attributes and efficacy in the current meta.
11. Lucio
Hippity Hoppity, Get Off My Property
Weapon | Sonic Amplifier |
Abilities | Crossfade, Amp It Up, Soundwave |
Ultimate | Sound Barrier |
Unique Passive | Wall Ride |
While Lucio is an incredibly entertaining hero with over 100 hours of playtime, I must candidly admit he struggles to keep up in terms of healing output. Despite being renowned for his playful wall rides and the capability to disrupt opponents with Soundwave, his healing potential is only average unless paired with a strong secondary healer. His speed boost shines in dive-heavy strategies, but the limited healing radius can lead to tough situations on larger maps.
10. Brigitte
None Can Escape The Flail’s Inspiration
Weapon | Rocket Flail |
Abilities | Repair Pack, Whip Shot, Barrier Shield, Shield Bash |
Ultimate | Rally |
Unique Passive | Inspire |
Brigitte offers a combination of utility and survivability, making her a valuable frontline support hero. Yet, similarly to Lucio, she struggles to maintain consistent healing without an aggressive approach and proper positioning to activate her Inspire passive effectively.
9. Zenyatta
One With The Tranquility
Weapon | Orb of Destruction |
Abilities | Orb of Discord, Orb of Harmony |
Ultimate | Transcendence |
Unique Passive | Snap Kick |
Zenyatta serves as a strong option for players looking to provide defensive support through Harmony and Discord Orbs. While his ability to inflict damage is notable, especially against squishy characters like Tracer, he lacks mobility and durability when faced with aggressive opponents. His Ultimate can swing engagements decisively, yet his healing capabilities are limited to targeted allies, making mass healing a challenge.
8. Illari
The Power Of The Sun
Weapon | Solar Rifle |
Abilities | Outburst, Healing Pylon |
Ultimate | Captive Sun |
Unique Passive | N/A |
Illari brings complexity to the Support role with her Solar Rifle and Healing Pylon. Maximizing her healing requires strategic placement of her Pylon, while Outburst allows her to reposition quickly. Although her Ultimate, Captive Sun, can be instrumental during fights, its vulnerabilities must be considered, especially against damage-absorbing abilities.
7. Lifeweaver
Nature Heals All Wounds
Weapon | Healing Blossom, Thorn Valley |
Abilities | Petal Platform, Rejuvenating Dash, Life Grip |
Ultimate | Tree of Life |
Unique Passive | – |
Lifeweaver showcases versatility through his unique healing mechanics, most notably after recent patches that improved his Life Grip capabilities. While average in output, his abilities can heavily influence team dynamics, ensuring survivability during intense encounters.
6. Mercy
The Sponge Or The Spray?
Weapon | Caduceus Staff, Caduceus Blaster |
Abilities | Guardian Angel, Resurrect |
Ultimate | Valkyrie |
Unique Passive | Angelic Descent, Sympathetic Recovery |
Mercy remains a cornerstone of support healing in Overwatch 2. Despite gameplay challenges, her unique ability to damage boost and resurrect teammates offers enormous strategic advantages, particularly in low-rank play. Mastering her movement is crucial for survival, especially against enemy snipers.
5. Moira
Mad Scientist Blues
Weapon | Biotic Grasp |
Abilities | Biotic Orb, Fade |
Ultimate | Coalescence |
Unique Passive | – |
Moira excels in chaotic maps, delivering crucial area control with her Biotic Orbs while simultaneously healing multiple allies. Her Coalescence Ultimate offers high damage while providing healing, making her a dynamic force on the battlefield.
4. Juno
One Giant Leap For Martians
Weapon | Mediblaster |
Abilities | Pulsar Torpedoes, Glide Boost, Hyper Ring |
Ultimate | Orbital Ray |
Unique Passive | Martian Overboots |
Juno stands out with her excellent range of healing abilities. Though she faced nerfs, her gameplay remains effective, especially with her Orbital Ray Ultimate capable of leading the charge against enemies during team pushes.
3. Well
A Sleep Dart From Grandma
Weapon | Biotic Rifle |
Abilities | Sleep Dart, Biotic Grenade |
Ultimate | Nano Boost |
Unique Passive | – |
Ana’s strategic playstyle continues to shine with improved healing and damage output via her Biotic Rifle. Her Sleep Dart ability can disrupt crucial enemy ultimates, while the Biotic Grenade provides significant healing boosts to allies, cementing her position as one of the top healers in the game.
2. Baptiste
A Mix Of Grenades And Immortality
Weapon | Biotic Launcher |
Abilities | Regenerative Burst, Immortality Field |
Ultimate | Amplification Matrix |
Unique Passive | Exo Boots |
Baptiste continues to be a powerhouse in the support role, thanks to the synergies among his abilities. His Immortality Field can save allies from the brink of death, while his Amplification Matrix amplifies both healing and offensive capabilities efficiently.
1. There is
All It Takes Is One Kitsune Rush
Weapon | Healing Ofuda, Kunai |
Abilities | Swift Step, Protection Suzu |
Ultimate | Kitsune Rush |
Unique Passive | Wall Climb |
Kiriko excels in healing output while providing exceptional utility through her Swift Step and Protection Suzu abilities. Her potential to turn the tide with Kitsune Rush, combined with high offensive capabilities using Kunai, makes her the most versatile Support hero currently available in Overwatch 2. Strategic pairings with other heroes can lead to devastating effectiveness on the battlefield.
