Warning: Spoilers Ahead for Yellowstone Season 5, Episode 14, “Life Is A Promise”
The world of Yellowstone continues to captivate audiences, despite the flagship series having concluded its fifth season. The expansive universe created by Taylor Sheridan is not limited to the main storyline, as it also includes several prequels such as 1883 and 1923. These offshoots provide a rich backstory for the Dutton family, tracing their lineage across seven generations of pioneering ranchers. Excitingly, Sheridan is set to introduce four new spinoffs that promise to deepen the lore and intrigue of the Yellowstone narrative further.
What piques interest about Sheridan’s upcoming productions is that many of them are positioned in the present day, creating a fresh perspective within the overarching timeline of the original series. While previous offshoots have delved into the past, the new installments will focus primarily on contemporary issues and themes, allowing for a distinct narrative approach. Among these, one more prequel remains in the works, which could potentially be the most thrilling addition to the Yellowstone canon.
4 6666
A Texas-Themed Yellowstone Spinoff
The anticipated Texas spinoff, known as Yellowstone 6666, holds significant promise, yet detailed updates have remained elusive. The series is set to feature Jefferson White alongside Taylor Sheridan’s character, Travis Wheatley, following Jimmy’s transformation into a seasoned cowboy, which began in Yellowstone’s fourth season. The show will be named after the renowned Four Sixes Ranch in West Texas, a property that Sheridan himself owns, and is expected to showcase some breathtaking landscapes.
The finale of Yellowstone season 5, particularly the episode titled “Life Is A Promise,”aired on December 15, 2024. After this conclusion, executive producer Christina Voros shared an uncertain update regarding the status of spinoffs 6666 and 1944 during an interview with TV Line. Voros expressed that while some story doors had been definitively closed, others remained ambiguously open, indicating that the future of the spinoffs is still to be determined:
“I honestly don’t know how Taylor chooses to tell which stories he chooses to tell when,” Voros commented on 6666 and 1944. “I think he has closed a lot of doors on Yellowstone this season. There are obviously characters that we will not see again because they have been dispatched. But I think he has left some doors open, and there’s some doors that I can’t tell if they’re locked or not yet. But we will know when we cross through them.”
Interestingly, the seeds for the Texas spinoff are evident throughout the latter part of Yellowstone’s fifth season, where characters Jimmy Hurdstrom and Travis Wheatley make recurring appearances. Moreover, continual references to the Four Sixes ranch intensify interest, particularly with mentions of Four Sixes vodka in episode 10, a nod to Sheridan’s own brand.
3 Beth & Rip
A Continuation Of Yellowstone Season 5
Excitement brewed with the unveiling of a new spinoff centered around the beloved characters Beth and Rip, portrayed by Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser. However, the challenge lies in how their narrative will distinguish itself from the flagship storyline. Insights reveal that their series will closely align with the Yellowstone moniker, featuring familiar faces and echoing thematic elements from the original series.
Set in a secluded ranch 40 miles west of Dillon, Montana, as established during the season 5 finale, Beth and Rip’s journey will unfold in the very landscapes familiar to Yellowstone viewers. This connection may blur the lines between their story and the flagship, potentially complicating its development. Legal implications concerning character use and plot continuity could hamper this spinoff’s progress, but the prospect of Beth and Rip establishing their lives apart from the ranch remains an enticing narrative to watch for.
2 The Madison
The Clyburn Family’s Montana Beginning
Diverging from the Dutton-centric focus, The Madison stands out as an intriguing Yellowstone offshoot, spotlighting the Clyburn family, led by the talented Michelle Pfeiffer in the role of Stacy Clyburn. The narrative will follow this family as they embark on a journey to Montana in the wake of their patriarch’s death. Despite its distinct family setup, characters from The Madison will interact within Beth and Kayce’s established Montana landscape, creating potential overlaps with the original series.
The excitement surrounding The Madison stems from its early developments, as it is set to introduce an array of characters, hinting at a robust storyline building momentum for 2025. This positions it even more favorably compared to Beth and Rip’s spinoff, as it appears to offer fresh and independent content while complementing the Yellowstone universe.
1 1944
Sheridan’s Announced 1923 Sequel
The spinoff titled 1944 presents a compelling avenue for storytelling as it aims to delve into the Dutton family’s life during that era. Initially announced alongside The Madison, 1944 provides viewers with the potential to see how Sheridan continues the Dutton saga after the events of 1923 season 2.
However, progress on 1944 seems to have stalled compared to the robust developments observed with The Madison. Christina Voros indicated uncertainty about its production status, noting that the season 5 finale impacted the direction of certain narratives within Yellowstone. Nonetheless, the potential for 1944 remains intact, as its historical context isn’t limited by contemporary plot conclusions. Fans are hopeful for a seamless transition from 1923 to its sequel, allowing the captivating family saga to continue its journey through time.
