In the dynamic world of Hyper Light Breaker, players are equipped with numerous offensive alternatives, including the intriguing category known as Amps. These unique items serve as secondary damage sources and offer diverse functionalities that can significantly enhance gameplay.
While it may seem redundant to have an additional damage source when your character’s Blade already boasts special and charged attacks, Amps provide crucial support in various scenarios. However, the effectiveness of these Amps varies widely, prompting a closer examination and ranking of their utility and performance.
In this ranking, each Amp is evaluated independently. Those benefiting a broader range of builds receive higher scores compared to those that cater to specific setups, particularly when considering effectiveness in delivering substantial damage.
9 Root-Hash Hack
A Different Kind of Hack

The Root-Hash Hack is designed to summon a duplicate of the last enemy you defeated, but its functionality often falls short. In many instances, the summon fails entirely or appears only after a long delay, rendering it almost ineffective.
In my experiences, the summoned ally rarely contributes; it usually remains inactive until the battle concludes. Even when an ally does manifest, its damage output is so minimal that it hardly makes an impact, making it hard to justify its use.
Given the unreliability and lackluster performance, this Amp ranks at the bottom of the list as it simply does not fulfill its intended purpose.
8 Vulcan Drone
Bad Backup

Next up is the Vulcan Drone, which summons a companion that fires a weak laser at foes. Unfortunately, this drone vanishes shortly after its arrival, resulting in minimal lasting effects.
While it can eliminate weaker enemies after a prolonged engagement, its lack of range and inability to draw enemy fire limits its usefulness. Unlike Risk of Rain 2’s drones, which divert enemy attention, the Vulcan Drone fails to fulfill this role effectively. Overall, it serves more as a minor distraction rather than a reliable backup.
7 Frag Grenade
Drop And Go

Offering a quick area-of-effect damage option, the Frag Grenade serves as a solid but unimpressive supplemental attack. While it effectively chips away at enemy health, unless they’re already weakened, it often fails to secure a knockout against tougher opponents.
This Amp fits into a role reminiscent of a Splatoon burst bomb—passable but not groundbreaking. Its quick detonation makes it effective in crowd scenarios, but it should not be relied upon as a primary damage tool.
6 Shrapnel Cloud
Rain Hellfire

The Shrapnel Cloud may initially seem ineffective with its low-damage projectiles, but it proves to be a reliable source of sustained damage in fixed areas.
While it struggles against fast-moving enemies, it excels against bosses and mini-bosses, consistently inflicting damage and staggering foes within its radius. The debuffing effect enhances its usability, especially in challenging battles where crowd control is necessary.
5 Crush Block
Better Get Squashed

The Crush Block is a standout among pure AOE Amps. This powerful tool drops a significant block from the sky, dealing enormous damage to any enemy it crushes. The quick deployment makes it particularly effective in mob scenarios, though it requires careful aiming to maximize its potential.
While it excels in eliminating minions and damaging bosses, aiming under pressure can sometimes be a challenge. Nonetheless, it provides one of the most satisfying methods to achieve substantial area damage in the game.
4 Chrome Golem
Spawning Diversions

The Chrome Golem effectively fulfills the roles that the Root-Hash Hack and Vulcan Drone do not. Summoning this formidable ally can distract enemies while delivering damage, proving essential during intense encounters.
Despite its lack of strong DPS, the Golem’s mere presence allows players the opportunity to regroup or execute powerful attacks while the enemies focus on it. This strategic advantage makes it a valuable addition to any support-oriented build.
3 Berserker’s Exoskeleton
Ultra Instinct

The Berserker’s Exoskeleton truly stands out by enhancing both your defense and offensive capabilities in heated situations. This Amp makes you resilient, allowing damage taken to be converted into attack power while also providing a heal over time.
Its eight-second duration makes it ideal for chaotic boss battles where evasive maneuvers are crucial and provides an escape route when overwhelmed. Though its longevity could be improved, it serves admirably as a last resort for tank builds.
2 Caretaker Shield
Block This Overhead

The Caretaker Shield is an exceptional tool for players looking to regain control during enemy swarms. Not only can it stun foes upon impact, but it allows for immediate follow-up attacks, particularly useful in skirmishes.
This Shield remains effective until you are hit, encouraging aggressive playstyles, but its utility fades against bosses that cannot be staggered. While the stun radius could be expanded for greater effectiveness, it empowers players to engage fearlessly in combat.
1 Shatter Gauntlet
One Punch, Man!

At the top of the rankings is the Shatter Gauntlet, widely recognized for its high damage potential. This Amp is easily accessible, allowing for swift execution and capable of dealing critical blows to minibosses in a single strike.
Though it has a limited range, it makes up for this with versatility, allowing you to quickly dispatch multiple enemies with just one hit. The option to charge for increased damage, combined with its low recharge time, makes it a remarkable choice for any build focused on raw damage output.
