Introducing Rainbow Six Siege X: A New Era in Tactical Gaming
After a decade of continuous content enhancements from Ubisoft, Rainbow Six Siege has cultivated a dedicated player community. However, this extensive array of updates has complicated the onboarding process for newcomers. In a significant transition, Ubisoft has announced the arrival of Rainbow Six Siege X, a revamped iteration of the beloved franchise.
What is Rainbow Six Siege X?
Ubisoft clarifies that Rainbow Six Siege X is neither a sequel nor a total overhaul; instead, it is an upgrade designed to align the game with modern gaming hardware while improving the core player experience.
New Game Mode: Dual Front
A standout feature of this update is the introduction of a new gameplay mode known as Dual Front. This mode complements the existing tactical five versus five bomb defusal format that has been a mainstay since the game’s inception. Dual Front elevates the action to six versus six battles, allowing respawn functionality and removing the traditional roles of Attacker and Defender operators.
Combat in Dual Front unfolds across a more expansive map than typical in Siege, with designated sectors for each team. Players can engage in offensive maneuvers by deploying sabotage kits in the enemy’s territory while also safeguarding their own base against incursions.
Enhancements to Classic Modes and Maps
In addition to the launch of Dual Front, the traditional five versus five gameplay and its associated maps are set to undergo significant upgrades. Here are the key improvements as highlighted by Ubisoft:
- Modernized Visuals: The updated maps feature enhanced lighting and shadows, drastically improving both aesthetics and gameplay. Players will benefit from double the texture resolution and an optional 4K texture pack for PC users. Five maps, including Clubhouse, Chalet, Border, Bank, and Kafe, will be reworked upon launch, with additional updates rolling out each season.
- Dynamic Environmental Features: New destructible elements introduce innovative tactical possibilities. For instance, damaged gas pipes can emit flames, while fire extinguishers will release smoke that can disorient nearby Operators. Moreover, interactable metal detectors can be destroyed or temporarily disabled via EMPs.
- Fluid Rappel Mechanics: Improved motion capture enhances player navigation on rappels, enabling smoother movements, horizontal sprinting, and better positioning around corners.
- Comprehensive Audio Overhaul: A complete reworking of audio technology enhances sound propagation and reverberation, allowing players to gain crucial intel about enemy movements and positions.
- Enhanced Communication Tools: A new communication wheel streamlines non-verbal communication, enabling players to place various environmental pings for better teamwork.
- Weapon Customization Inspection: Players can now examine their weapon’s cosmetic options mid-match.
- Revamped Ranked Matches: A new pick-and-ban system expedites team decision-making, refreshing opportunities with each side switch to boost strategic flexibility.
- Improved Onboarding Experience: New tutorials and training modules are designed to assist new players in mastering fundamental gameplay aspects before diving into competitive settings.

Access and Availability
Upon its release, Rainbow Six Siege X will feature a partially free-to-play model, granting unrestricted access to the Dual Front mode, offering up to 26 operators through in-game progression, and enabling players to enjoy all available unranked playlists. For those wishing to unlock further content, a paid upgrade will provide access to Ranked and Siege Cup competitive modes, along with additional operators. Existing players will receive an upgraded premium edition and retain all previously acquired content.
Beta Testing Phase
Rainbow Six Siege X is set to launch, including the new Dual Front mode and the aforementioned enhancements, on June 10. Meanwhile, a closed beta is currently underway on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 until March 19. Players can gain early access by engaging with partnered Twitch streamers showcasing the new experience.
