Recent benchmarks indicate that Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 shows a remarkable preference for AMD RDNA 4 GPUs over NVIDIA’s GeForce cards, with significant disparities in performance emerging between AMD’s leading GPU and its closest rival from NVIDIA.

While it’s common for certain games to favor one brand’s GPUs over another, performance gaps exceeding double digits are a rarity. The latest beta tests for the highly anticipated Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, conducted by Computer Base, have unveiled some surprising results ahead of the official release.

In the beta phase, Computer Base assessed a variety of GPUs, including the latest offerings from AMD, NVIDIA, and Intel, using settings that emphasize quality. Notably, the game includes support for DLSS 4, although it currently lacks native support for FSR 4—FSR 3.1 is available instead. For those utilizing the latest Adrenalin drivers, however, the RX 9070 XT can run with FSR 4 enhancements. This configuration allowed the testers to push AMD’s flagship card to its limits during evaluation.

Interestingly, although the RX 9070 XT generally performs lower than the RTX 5070 Ti in most scenarios, it significantly outstripped NVIDIA’s upper mid-range contender in Black Ops 7, achieving an astounding 31% increase in performance at 1440p resolution. This achievement is noteworthy not only because of the direct victory over the RTX 5070 Ti but also for its proximity in performance to the higher-end GeForce RTX 5090.

Though the performance metrics did not include the GeForce RTX 5080, early indications suggest that the RX 9070 XT may outdo the RTX 5080 at 1440p. As for higher resolutions, such as 3440x1440p and 4K, the performance gap between the RX 9070 XT and the RTX 5090 widens. Nonetheless, the RX 9070 XT continues to outperform its direct competitor across these resolutions as well, complemented by superior 1% low performance, which results in a smoother overall gaming experience.

However, it is essential to note that not all AMD GPUs see the same level of favorability. For instance, the RX 7800 XT performs comparably to the RTX 4070, thus indicating that the game is well-optimized primarily for RDNA 4 architecture. Other models, including the RX 7600, also maintain competitive standings against their NVIDIA counterparts. For the time being, enthusiasts are left hoping for more comprehensive data on RDNA 4 performance, including insights into the RX 9060 XT, as they await the official launch set for November 14.
