Queen of Tears tops Netflix Global Top 10 for Non-English shows, garnering 4.3 million views

On April 3, 2024, Netflix made an official announcement on their website that the non-English drama Queen of Tears had reached the top spot on the Global Top 10 list, with over 4.3 million views. The show had also achieved top 10 rankings in 41 countries and had accumulated more than 4,300,000 views during the week of March 25 to 31.

During the time span of March 25-31, the romantic comedy drama accumulated more than 41,400,000 hours of views, securing its place at the top of the Netflix Global Top 10 Rankings for the fourth consecutive week since its premiere.

The two episodes of the ongoing drama were aired on Netflix and tvN between March 25 and March 31. Specifically, episodes 7 and 8 were aired on March 30 and 31, 2024, respectively.

Queen of Tears: A Captivating Story That Has Taken the World by Storm

The film Queen of Tears explores the story of a married couple who faced numerous challenges and struggled to maintain their marriage. Baek Hyun-woo (portrayed by Kim Soo-hyun) comes from the small town of Yongduri and eventually becomes the legal director of Queens Group.

At the same time, Hong Hae-in (played by Kim Ji-won) leads the department stores of Queens Group. She and Hyun-woo develop a romantic relationship while she is interning at his company, eventually leading them to get married. However, their troubles begin when Hae-in falls ill with a mysterious disease and Hyun-woo decides to end their marriage.

The premiere of Queen of Tears was broadcasted on March 9, 2024, on Netflix globally and tvN in South Korea. The comedic and romantic series, which is still ongoing, is being directed by Kim Hee-won and Jang Young-woo, and written by screenwriter Park Ji-eun.

According to Nielsen Korea, the viewership ratings for Queen of Tears remain strong in the domestic market. Episodes 7 and 8 were broadcast on March 30 and March 31, 2024, and achieved ratings of 12.84% (nationwide) and 14.048% (Seoul), and 16.143% (nationwide) and 17.886% (Seoul) respectively.

Despite the passage of time, Queen of Tears maintained its position in the top 10 in 41 countries on Netflix. In the United States, the series continued to dominate the charts in various regions such as Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Venezuela, and many more.

The drama continues to hold the top spot in various Asian countries on the Netflix Global Top 10 rankings, such as Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, and Vietnam. It also maintains its position in the top 10 in other regions, including India, Jordan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Oman, the Maldives, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Hong Kong, and others.

Netflix viewers in Romania and Nigeria ranked it as the top show in Europe and Africa, respectively.

In addition, the American streaming service’s Top 10 Non-English shows also consist of the second season of Physical: 100, the first season of The Great Indian Kapil Show, the first seasons of Bandidos, Iron Reign, SPY X FAMILY, Furies, and My Hero Academia, as well as the series, the Signal.
