According to a report by the German outlet WinFuture, the upcoming Snapdragon X2 desktop CPUs are set to incorporate up to 18 Oryon V3 cores, all within a unique SiP (System-in-Package) configuration. This approach indicates Qualcomm’s intention to offer a distinctive alternative in the competitive landscape dominated by Intel and AMD.

Historically, Qualcomm’s venture into desktop CPUs has been categorized under “Project Glymur.”New insights suggest that the company is taking a bold step by increasing the core count, which promises a considerable uptick in performance compared to its existing laptop processors. Notably, Qualcomm’s innovative route involves packing SSD and memory components directly into a single package, although the technical implementation remains a topic of speculation.

In terms of SiP design, one of the closest parallels currently available in the market can be found with AMD’s 3D V-Cache CPUs. AMD has effectively mounted a substantial L3 cache memory die directly on top of the CPU die, leading to improved performance. Qualcomm’s explorations reportedly include testing configurations with 48 GB of RAM and a 1 TB SSD housed within the CPU package itself.
