The upcoming Snapdragon Summit, scheduled for September 23, is set to center primarily on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 chipset. However, Qualcomm will also unveil a non-flagship alternative, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 5. This new processor aims to provide smartphone manufacturers with a capable silicon option while retaining many features found in Qualcomm’s premium SoC. According to insider sources, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 5, designated as ‘SM8845′, will be produced using TSMC’s advanced 3nm ‘N3P’ manufacturing technology and will incorporate Qualcomm’s proprietary Oryon computing cores.
Key Features of Snapdragon 8s Gen 5
Recent insights from Digital Chat Station on Weibo reveal promising attributes of the Snapdragon 8s Gen 5. The first smartphones equipped with this processor are expected to launch by the end of 2025, showcasing performance levels comparable to those of the Snapdragon 8 Elite. Notably, this new chipset will inherit various IP and GPU architectures from its elite counterpart, enabling Qualcomm to present a versatile chipset solution that appeals to a broader range of device manufacturers.
Leveraging TSMC’s third-generation 3nm manufacturing process, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 5 promises enhanced efficiency, translating to superior performance without excessive power consumption. The introduction of Qualcomm’s custom Oryon cores is anticipated to further elevate the performance capabilities of the 8s Gen 5, allowing it to compete effectively in the premium segments of the market. For manufacturers, positioning devices powered by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 5 offers an opportunity to maintain competitive pricing while still delivering high-performance specifications.

Interestingly, Qualcomm appears to be employing a chip-binning strategy similar to that used by Apple, where the Snapdragon 8s Gen 5 is a streamlined version of the 8 Elite Gen 2. While it may lack certain high-end features, the difference should not significantly affect performance. As further information unfolds, we look forward to validating Digital Chat Station’s claims during the official launch later this year.
