Five Reasons We Love Nothing Ear (1)!

While many of us have probably spent more than half of our lives listening to our favorite songs through wired headphones, the lack of a 3.5mm headphone jack in recent smartphones and laptops has given us the opportunity to explore those on the other side of the realm – TWS Headphones …

This will inevitably lead to an increase in demand for these earbuds, which is why major smartphone manufacturers such as Xiaomi, Vivo and OPPO have also recently plunged into the wireless earbuds market.

Therefore, we are spoiled for choice of TWS earbuds, especially when so many new models are released every month. However, if we’re talking about innovative earbuds that really stand out from the crowd, there may be few, with the exception of a few, such as the recently announced Nothing Ear (1).

Although the Nothing Ear (1) is the first product launched by London-based company Nothing, founded by OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei, it is a fantastic TWS earbud with many attractive features that make it worthy of the S $ 179 asking price in Singapore.

After spending over two weeks with Nothing Ear (1), we think it would be nice to share with our readers five of our favorite features of the new Nothing Ear (1). Without further ado, let’s take a look at them!

Innovative design, impressive

While it is true that sound quality is probably the most important aspect of TWS earbuds, there is also an increasing focus on the design of these earbuds as many are beginning to view them as a fashion accessory that can match their daily wear as well.

If you belong to this group of users looking for beautiful headphones, then Nothing Ear (1) certainly fits your needs. On the outside, the Nothing Ear (1) looks a bit like the Apple AirPod Pro, especially when it comes with fairly similar rods and silicone ear tips.

However, you will quickly notice the obvious difference between the two if you take a closer look at them. This is because the Nothing Ear (1) has a translucent design that allows you to peek into some of its internals at work.

While this is what I’ve seen before in smartphones and gaming desktops, this is actually the first time I’ve encountered such a design on headphones. It’s a refreshing and trendy design that goes well with most outfits, whether sporty or casual.

To sweeten the deal, Nothing Ear (1) also comes with a matching clear charging case that showcases the earbuds in all their glory when placed in the case. Unlike glossy cases, this clear charging case does a great job of taking out fingerprints and smudges.

One of the most comfortable earbuds to date

Blissful with a lightest weight of just 4.7 grams, it’s no surprise if you can hardly feel the presence of the headphones in your ear. That’s how comfortable these headphones are!

Plus, there are two extra pairs of eartips in the package in different sizes to provide a secure fit that keeps the earbuds in place even during intense workouts. This way, it shouldn’t be a problem, even if you have small ears.

Like any other high quality TWS earbuds, the Nothing Ear (1) also has an IPX4 rating for splash resistance, which basically means the earbuds can withstand light rain if it occurs while you’re out for a run.

Excellent noise reduction, good sound quality

Moving on to the sonic side of things, we have to mention that the Nothing Ear (1) does come with robust active noise cancellation that works as intended.

Depending on the amount of noise you intend to block, you can choose from three different noise reduction modes with different noise reduction levels for different scenarios.

For example, transparency mode allows users to stay aware of their surroundings when crossing a road or cycling on a busy road, while maximum mode provides the highest level of noise cancellation that easily blocks unwanted noise during daily train travel.

In terms of sound quality, the Nothing Ear (1) also excels in this aspect, especially when you consider its price tag. It is backed by an 11.6mm dynamic driver that delivers pleasant sound thanks to its well-balanced sound profile.

So it comes as no surprise that it sounds good for a wide variety of genres, be it English classics, jazz, pop or rock music. Most importantly, it also delivers crisp and clear vocals that sound natural and sophisticated.

Intuitive set of controls

For music control, the Nothing Ear (1) offers an intuitive set of touch controls that make it easy to pause or play music by simply double-tapping on both sides of the earbuds. You can also adjust the volume by swiping your finger down or up along the stem of the headphones.

Apart from this, you also have the option to skip the current track by triple-tapping on the right side of the earbuds, or return to the previous track by triple-tapping the left side of the earbuds. Finally, you can also turn ANC on or off by holding them on both sides of the earbuds.

In addition to the usual touch controls, Nothing also paired the Ear (1) with a companion app, which is available for download via the Play store for Android devices and the App Store for iPhone.

This app not only allows users to better track the remaining battery life of their respective headphones, but also allows users to seamlessly switch between different ANC modes or adjust the equalizer to fine tune the sound.

Battery life that lasts for a day

The battery life of the Nothing Ear (1) depends on whether ANC mode is turned on. Undoubtedly, enabling this feature will slightly reduce the battery life – about 4 hours. However, when the charging case is taken into account, this number can go up to 24 hours with trickle charging.

In the absence of ANC, those numbers can be expected to rise from 4 to 5.7 hours without a charging case, and from 24 to 34 hours with a charging case. It doesn’t have the best battery life for TWS earbuds, but it’s certainly more than enough for us.

In terms of charging, the charging case can be charged either via the USB-C port or wirelessly via a Qi-compatible charger. Notably, just 10 minutes of charging via the USB-C port is enough to provide up to 8 hours of use without ANC.

Verdict

Nothing Ear (1) may be the first product released by the company. However, we got the impression that the headphones were developed by a company with many years of experience, with many aspects done correctly, without wasting a bomb.

At just S $ 179, the Nothing Ear (1) boasts one of the most beautiful TWS earbuds with all the essential features you need, such as active noise canceling, superior sound quality, intuitive controls, an IPX4 rating for water resistance, and good battery life. and support for wireless charging.
