Krafton’s Exciting 2025 Roadmap for PUBG: Battlegrounds Unveiled
In a significant update, Krafton has revealed its roadmap for PUBG: Battlegrounds for the year 2025. This comes one year after the transition announcement from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5. The studio is now working diligently on this transformative upgrade, aiming to solidify a robust long-term foundation for the wildly popular game while preserving the core elements that fans cherish.
As of now, the UE5 upgrade is still in the pre-production stage, indicating that players will need to wait a bit longer for its full implementation. Alongside this, Krafton is developing a version of PUBG optimized for current-generation consoles, set to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X in late 2025. This version promises visual enhancements and improved performance, including better frame rates and optimized map loading times.
Empowering Player Creativity with UGC Projects
Another major initiative on the horizon is the PUBG UGC (User Generated Content) project, set to empower players with tools to craft and share custom experiences. This project will kick off with the introduction of a new TDM-style mode in Custom Matches, promoting creativity and new forms of player interaction within the game.
Enhancements in Match Experience and Progression
Krafton is also focused on improving the gameplay experience in Normal Matches, Ranked, and Esports arenas. Aimed at unifying these experiences, key elements from Normal Matches will be incorporated into Ranked play. This integration intends to diminish the disparity between the two modes, making transitions smoother for players.
Additionally, a comprehensive tier overhaul is slated for June, designed to make rank progression more rewarding and impactful. Regular balance patches will be released every two months throughout 2025 to adjust the weapon meta continually, while a significant annual rebalancing will bring fresh dynamics to weapon usage, promoting diverse play styles. Underused weapons, including SRs, LMGs, and SMGs, will see boosts in viability, with new weapons and attachments also in the works.
AI Enhancements for a Competitive Edge
Artificial Intelligence is another area earmarked for substantial upgrades. The revamped AI will feature bots that act more realistically, better responding to gameplay elements such as the shrinking blue zone. They will be programmed to utilize cover effectively and even deploy smoke grenades to enhance combat situations, creating a more engaging and authentic experience.
World Updates and Map Transformations
Although no new maps are set to debut this year, a significant world update is in the works for late 2025. This update will focus on revitalizing existing maps, enhancing gameplay experiences while maintaining the essence that players love. Notably, the Destructible Terrain feature will be introduced in maps like Taego, Miramar, and Erangel.
Combatting Cheating With Advanced Technologies
Krafton remains committed to eradicating cheating in PUBG. New detection technologies are in development to combat increasingly sophisticated cheating tactics. The team is exploring the integration of Windows OS protections for enhanced security against exploitative software.
To further this initiative, machine learning models are being utilized to detect unauthorized software in real-time, boosting PUBG’s capabilities to identify and ban cheaters effectively. Additional security measures are also being formulated to protect player accounts robustly and mitigate risks related to account hijacking and unfair play.
