PSA: Several Windows Versions Will Lose Support on October 14

End of Support for Windows Variants Approaching

Microsoft has announced critical upcoming deadlines for various Windows operating system versions, highlighting that users must take action to maintain their systems’ security and functionality. If users do not extend their support through paid options or utilize the available “free”resources, they will stop receiving essential security and feature updates after the specified deadlines.

Important Dates for Windows 10 and 11

The Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) edition of Windows 10, specifically version 22H2, will also reach its end of support on the same date mentioned above. Additionally, Microsoft is alerting customers about another significant development: the Enterprise, Education, and IoT versions of Windows 11, version 22H2, will also cease support on October 14, 2025.

For context, the Home and Pro editions of Windows 11, version 22H2 have already reached their end of life earlier on October 8, 2024. This means that the additional support period for the other WeUs will conclude in just a few months, urging users to act promptly.

Support Duration and Next Steps

Released on September 20, 2022, Windows 11, version 22H2 for IoT, Enterprise, and Education will only receive a little over three years of support before it reaches its end of life, contrasting with the standard two-year support for Home and Pro editions. To enhance security and features, it is advisable for users still on these versions to consider upgrading to either version 23H2 or 24H2. These versions boast longer support periods, with end dates on November 10, 2026, and October 12, 2027, respectively.

Maintaining an updated version of Windows is essential for ensuring that your system receives continuous security updates, which protect against vulnerabilities. IT administrators should start planning for a migration to a supported version promptly. For users operating on affected versions, it is easy to check your current Windows specifications by navigating to Settings > System > About, and finding your Windows Specifications > Version.
