Prosser Responds to Gurman with In-Depth iOS 19 Leak Featuring Rounded App Icons, Pill-Shaped Floating Tab Bar, and visionOS-Inspired Glass User Interface

The upcoming iOS 19 has ignited a fascinating discussion among tech analysts and insiders, with contrasting reports emerging regarding its design changes. Jon Prosser, a well-known leaker, initially stated that Apple would retain the current app icon design for the iPhone. However, Mark Gurman, another industry expert, recently countered that iOS 19 will feature significant updates, including revamped app icons, set to roll out later this year. Following this, Prosser has provided an update indicating that indeed, Apple plans to make alterations to app icons in iOS 19.

Exciting New Features in iOS 19: A Design Revolution

In his latest video on the Front Page Tech YouTube channel, Jon Prosser clarified his previous assertions about the app icons in iOS 19. He revealed further intriguing details about the platform’s interface, such as the introduction of a floating tab bar and a new translucent glass-like aesthetic reminiscent of visionOS.

Prosser provided an in-depth look at iOS 19, where he and his team recreated several visuals to maintain the confidentiality of their sources. The revamped operating system is expected to showcase a translucent effect across various interface elements, including buttons, menus, notifications, and more. Notably, the toggle switches appear to feature a more squared-off design, diverging from their typical rounded form. However, the standout change involves the app icons, which will now have a slightly more rounded appearance.

Though the icons won’t achieve the fully rounded look found in visionOS, this subtle adjustment adds a fresh perspective to the Home Screen. It’s worth noting that this option might remain hidden by default, likely to prevent Apple from prematurely disclosing one of the most significant changes.

Another notable enhancement is the introduction of a floating pill-shaped tab bar positioned at the bottom of the interface. This new feature is expected to be accessible across various applications, including the App Store, Apple Music, and Apple TV, as illustrated in Prosser’s renders. Additionally, third-party developers are likely to customize their applications to take advantage of this new design element, which mirrors certain aspects of the Dynamic Island feature.

Furthermore, Apple has begun applying rounded corners to various interface components, such as Haptic Touch menus activated by long pressing app icons. This design approach has also been extended to the volume and display brightness sliders within the Control Center. In addition to these changes, subtle lighting effects in the Messages app contribute to the overall glass-like feel that Apple appears to be aiming for.

As we await more updates on iOS 19, it remains to be seen how Mark Gurman will respond to the latest design revelations and whether he will endorse these changes. Apple is set to officially unveil iOS 19 during its WWDC 2025 event on June 9, so stay tuned for further insights.
