On October 29, 2024, a legal filing in Manhattan’s federal court revealed that an attorney representing Sean Combs sought the identities of all accusers to aid in the preparation of his legal defense, according to CBS News. In reply, a prosecutor described this action as an “improper request,”urging the court to reject it.
“This improper request should be denied in its entirety, particularly here, where there are serious and ongoing concerns regarding the safety of victims and witnesses, as well as risks of tampering and intimidation,”the prosecutor stated.
This legal saga began following the high-profile arrest of Sean Combs on September 16, 2024, at the Park Hyatt hotel on West 57th Street, facing charges related to s*x trafficking, racketeering, and the transportation of individuals for prostitution, as reported by Sky News.
Prosecutors Oppose Diddy’s Request for Accuser Identities
On a Tuesday, the attorney for Sean Combs filed documents in Manhattan demanding that a judge require prosecutors to reveal the identities of all individuals who have accused him of sex trafficking. The attorney also provided a letter to the federal judge, emphasizing the need for these names to adequately prepare for the forthcoming trial.
In response, the prosecutor advocated against this request, arguing that such disclosures of victims’ identities and related evidence are not appropriate at this stage of the legal proceedings.
The prosecutor underscored the importance of “witness safety”and called for a complete rejection of the request, stating:
“This is a thinly veiled attempt to undermine the Government’s case early on and manipulate the criminal process to address civil lawsuits instead. This request must be firmly denied, especially given the potential threats to witness safety,”the prosecutor asserted.
In addition, the prosecutor remarked,
“The defendant is fully aware that there is no legal basis for his attempt to hijack this criminal case for his defense against civil allegations.”
The case referenced by Judge Mary Kay Vyskocil was initiated on October 15, 2024, under the alias Jane Doe by attorney Tony Buzbee, who has represented multiple anonymous claimants since Diddy’s arrest.
This lawsuit alleges that in 2004, when the woman was a 19-year-old college student at Brooklyn College, Combs invited her to a photoshoot near her campus.
After the shoot, Jane Doe reportedly received an invitation to an after-party at a Manhattan hotel, which she attended with a friend. She expressed excitement about being invited by such a prominent figure.
Upon arrival, however, Jane Doe and her friend were allegedly escorted by Combs’ entourage to a private room. When they sought clarification on why they were taken there, the entourage allegedly replied that they should already know the reason behind their invitation.
“You know what you are here for,”stated Combs’ entourage.
According to the lawsuit acquired by CNN, Diddy entered the room and allegedly encouraged the women to use cocaine, which they declined. Their refusal reportedly incited anger in Combs, who then began to touch them without consent. He is also accused of coercing one woman into performing oral sex.
The lawsuit claims that Combs then insisted that Jane Doe undress, even threatening to kill her if she did not comply. Afterward, he is alleged to have raped her. Combs’ attorney has firmly denied these allegations, asserting that their client has never assaulted anyone, regardless of gender or age.
As the legal proceedings progress, Diddy remains in custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, awaiting his trial, which is scheduled for May 5, 2025, as reported by ABC News.
