Predicted Global Price Increase for Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026 Due to Tariffs and Rising Memory Costs

Niko Partners Unveils 2026 Predictions for Nintendo Switch 2 Buyers

Niko Partners, a prominent research firm specializing in global video game industry analysis, recently released its 2026 predictions report. This report highlights ten significant consumer trends, and if you’re holding off on purchasing a Nintendo Switch 2, you may want to reconsider your timing.

The Urgency to Buy Now

The firm advises potential buyers that the best moment to secure a Nintendo Switch 2 is now, prior to an impending global price increase that Nintendo is expected to implement. Niko Partners anticipates that in 2026, various economic factors—including “tariffs, rising memory costs, and broader macroeconomic conditions”—will catalyze a price hike for this hybrid console. Nintendo’s pricing strategy may mirror that of Sony and Microsoft, both of which raised console prices shortly after their launches.

Potential Price Adjustments

While Niko Partners stops short of specifying an exact future price, they indicate that Nintendo might phase out the current $449 WeU, opting instead for a revised version starting at $499 or higher. Such a change would imply a minimum price increase of $50.

Insights from Nintendo’s Leadership

Recent comments from Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa gave further credence to these predictions. In a recent interview, Furukawa noted that the company needs to “monitor the situation closely”regarding pricing. Back in November 2025, he suggested that unless “significant changes in external factors, such as tariff shifts or unexpected events”occur, the price should remain stable.

Factors Contributing to Price Hikes

Despite the current price stability for the Switch 2, warnings about potential increases have been frequent, particularly regarding tariffs. Compounded by the ongoing memory shortages—an issue consumers may not fully understand—the likelihood of a price increase for the Nintendo Switch 2 appears to hinge on ‘when’ rather than ‘if’.

Rumors of a Switch 2 Lite

Interestingly, the report does not address recent speculations surrounding a potential Switch 2 Lite model. This variant could provide an attractive option for gamers looking for a more budget-friendly way to experience the latest Nintendo console. However, if Nintendo were to increase the Switch 2’s price to $499 while simultaneously introducing a Switch 2 Lite at a price of $449, it could complicate consumer choices.
