Microsoft regularly enhances PowerToys for both Windows 10 and Windows 11, introducing a variety of new tools with each update. Currently, the collection of available utilities has expanded significantly, reaching 23 distinct modules as of version 0.85.1. This extensive range can be quite overwhelming for users. Acknowledging this, Microsoft is working on better organizing PowerToys by categorizing the utilities, and they are eager to gather user feedback on the changes.
The proposal for organizing the navigation pane within PowerToys is not a recent development—it was originally suggested nearly two years ago, at a time when there were far fewer utilities available. It appears that developers are finally taking steps to address this need, with several design mockups presented on GitHub.
In essence, the overarching concept involves categorizing the utilities into groups such as System Tools, Windowing & Layouts, Input/Output, File Management, and Advanced.
Currently, the proposed layout is merely a concept, meaning revisions are very much expected as the plan evolves. Microsoft encourages users to provide their insights. Suggestions can be submitted through GitHub or by engaging with Clint Rutkas’ posts on X.
We need feedback! PowerToys has a ton of features and we’d love to iterate on our left side. Here is one of our grouping thoughts. what do you think? https://t.co/zQSXcRhxQq pic.twitter.com/474hSw60HR
