PowerToys 0.90 Launches with Exciting New Features
The latest update of PowerToys, version 0.90, is now available for download. Released in March 2025, this update introduces several enhancements that users have eagerly anticipated, including the newly revamped Command Palette, improvements to the Color Picker, and the addition of variable support for the New+ tool.
Microsoft first teased the Command Palette in December 2024, outlining numerous user-requested modifications that would improve the utility’s functionality. Now, after several months of waiting, users can finally experience the upgraded features.

FancyZones
- Resolved an issue where deleting a layout resulted in incorrect data in the JSON file.
- Fixed the incorrect display of layout hotkeys, ensuring no invalid entries appear in the hotkey list.
- Restored the “None”option within the layout editor.
Image Resizer
- Warnings regarding uninitialized variables “shellItem”and “itemName”in ImageResizer have been addressed.
Mouse Without Borders
- Logger enhancements now properly track file paths for simplified debugging.
- The “Common”class has been refactored into separate classes with updated references and unit tests.
New+
- Variable support has been added for template filenames, allowing for the inclusion of date/time components, parent folder names, and environment variables.
Peek
- Users can now delete files directly while in Peek mode, along with updates to navigation and handling for deleted items.
PowerToys Run
- Fixed issue with duplicated applications appearing; now ensures shell link helper opens.ink files without exclusivity and retrieves “FullPath”accurately.
- Resolved application crashes on Windows 11 build 22000 when applying round corners.
- Asynchronous updates to the OnRename method improve thread performance.
- Added support for using “sq”instead of “^2″in the Unit Converter feature.
Settings
- The spell check feature in the PowerToys Run plugin settings has been disabled.
- Addressed issues with InfoBars for release notes; added a retry button for better usability.
Workspaces
- Fixed an issue that prevented some minimized packaged applications, such as Microsoft ToDo and Settings, from being snapshotted properly.
