PowerToys 0.85.1 Release Notes and Bug Fixes

Recently, Microsoft unveiled the latest iteration of PowerToys, version 0.85, which is a significant update for the beloved utility application designed for Windows 10 and 11. As is typical with software releases, this update came with its share of bugs that surfaced shortly after its launch.

In response, Microsoft has rolled out a minor patch, PowerToys version 0.85.1.

  • #35188 – Resolved an issue that caused the Workspaces feature to incorrectly initiate the wrong project via a shortcut.
  • #35228 – Addressed a crashing problem that occurred when accessing the New+ templates folder through the Settings menu.

Users can also download the latest version from the Microsoft Store. If you’re currently using an older version of PowerToys, updating is simple: select the app, navigate to Settings, then General, and finally click or tap on the “Check for updates”option to install the newest version. Remember, this application is exclusively for PCs running Windows 10 or 11.

Among the features introduced in this update is an exciting new tool named New+. This utility allows users to create a customized collection of templates for quickly generating files and folders directly from the File Explorer context menu.

Version 0.85 also brought enhancements such as the ability for users to switch the user interface language within the application, as well as increased support for additional applications within the Workspaces feature of PowerToys. Furthermore, it introduced the Middle Eastern Romanization character set and optimized memory usage by fixing image leaks in the Peek tool.
