Power Girl Unlocks a Unique Power Never Before Seen in Kryptonians

Power Girl Unlocks a Unique Power Never Before Seen in Kryptonians

Warning: Spoilers for Power Girl #17

In the expansive DC Universe, Kryptonians are known for their incredible powers. However, the latest installment of Power Girl introduces an upgrade that distinguishes her from her counterparts. Paige Stetler, the alias of Power Girl, has come into possession of an ancient artifact that offers her a unique capability—one that even Superman doesn’t possess—enabling her to protect herself and her loved ones more effectively.

In the upcoming Power Girl #17, crafted by creative talents Leah Williams, David Baldeón, Romulo Fajardo Jr., and Becca Carey, the story unfolds as Omen prepares a new living arrangement for herself, Paige, and Steel, another celebrated member of Superman’s circle. During a visit, Paige’s boyfriend, Axel, presents a housewarming gift: the formidable Mars Bell, which not only serves as a decorative relic but also as a sophisticated alert system.

Power Girl’s Enhanced Perception of Danger

Paige’s boyfriend, Axel Gust—originating from Asgard and equipped with access to mystical artifacts—has introduced her to another potent item. Following their adventures in Valhalla depicted in Power Girl #12, where Axel showcases legendary objects like the Mirror of Mimir, he now gifts her the Mars Bell. Axel describes this artifact as a system that “alerts you when someone with murderous intentions enters your home.” With this bell in her abode, Power Girl gains a crucial edge against surprise ambushes.

Typically, Kryptonians enjoy a measure of immunity due to their various powers, including acute hearing. Superman often relies on this gift to perceive danger signals and rush to the rescue. Nevertheless, super-hearing is not infallible; some threats may evade detection. For instance, if a foe were to materialize right in her dwelling through teleportation, Power Girl might be taken by surprise before she could retaliate. The Mars Bell addresses this vulnerability, providing her an essential alert before danger strikes.

The Potential for Collaboration Among Superheroes

A Call for Enhancement Across the Justice League

The protective capabilities offered by the Mars Bell could benefit the entire superhero community—especially for figures like Superman and the Justice League, who have voiced concerns about their home base, the Watchtower, potentially being targeted by villains. Adapting technology akin to the Mars Bell would bolster their defenses against attacks and enhance the team’s overall security. Power Girl’s upgrade could very well establish her as the most fortified hero in the DC Universe, setting a thriving precedent for her peers.

Power Girl #17 is set for release on January 22, 2025, by DC Comics.
