Popular ‘Daredevil’ Character Set to Return to the MCU

Ahead of the much-anticipated debut of Daredevil: Born Again, producer Sana Amanat has sparked excitement by hinting at the potential return of a key character from both season 2 of Daredevil and The Defenders. Fans are left wondering—could this actually happen?

The journey to launch Daredevil: Born Again has been anything but smooth. The show faced significant delays primarily due to the Hollywood strikes and underwent numerous changes in writers, directors, and showrunners at Marvel Studios’ request. These shifts have led to various speculations about the necessity of extensive reshoots and script overhauls. Ultimately, it appears that the show’s creatives, along with the core cast, have steered the series toward a darker, action-oriented tribute to its Netflix roots, rather than conforming to the standard MCU comedic tone, especially following the lukewarm reception of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.

As excitement builds ahead of its March 4 premiere, the show’s direction seems to have found widespread approval. Charlie Cox will reprise his role as Matt Murdock, returning to Hell’s Kitchen alongside familiar allies, including Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson), Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll), and the notorious Frank Castle/The Punisher (Jon Bernthal). The storyline hints that the season’s main antagonist will be none other than Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio).Nevertheless, questions linger around other potential adversaries, particularly The Hand—could we see the return of Black Sky?

Could Elektra Make a Comeback in Daredevil: Born Again?

The chemistry between Matt and Elektra (Elodie Yung) is palpable, and it keeps viewers on the edge of their seats. Their complex relationship adds depth to Matt’s character, far surpassing his dynamic with Karen Page.

Although their love story faced tragedy—with Elektra’s death and transformation into a resurrected assassin for the crime syndicate The Hand—her journey post-The Defenders remains open to interpretation. Amanat has indicated that Elektra’s significance is not lost on the creative team, acknowledging that the notion of her return has been “in the back of [their] heads for a while now.” This suggests a real possibility for her involvement in either the upcoming season or even a dedicated project within the MCU.

“One-hundred percent it’s in the back of our heads. Eventually, we’ll try to figure out a bit more with that, ” Amanat shared with Entertainment Weekly. With Daredevil: Born Again already green-lit for a second season, the prospect of Elektra’s return feels increasingly likely. There might even be a surprise cameo in the works—this is the MCU, after all.

Addressing the Complex History of Matt and Elektra

Elektra stands out as one of Marvel’s most compelling street-level antiheroes and carries significant emotional weight for Matt Murdock. She has always been the one person who truly embraced his dual identity as Daredevil, offering understanding and encouragement where others fell short. Their intense moments, particularly highlighted in their boxing scene in Daredevil season 2, resonate deeply with fans.

As Daredevil: Born Again develops, it is crucial to acknowledge the intricate relationship between Matt and Elektra. Amanat’s recent remarks are promising in this regard. Given Elektra’s pivotal role in the original Netflix series, bringing her back could significantly enrich the narrative and help recapture the magic that made the previous seasons special. Now, viewers can only await more revelations from Amanat, Kevin Feige, and the wider Marvel team.
