Pokemon TCG Pocket Unveils New Space-Time Smackdown Expansion Set

Overview

  • The Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket has announced its upcoming expansion named Space-Time Smackdown.
  • Targeting Generation 4 Pokémon, this new set is set to launch on January 29.
  • The game will introduce a much-anticipated trading feature on January 28.

Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket is gearing up for its third expansion release, titled Space-Time Smackdown. This exciting addition follows the game’s initial launches and promises to bring a fresh wave of content to players.

Launched in late October 2024 with the Genetic Apex expansion, offering 286 collectible cards, Pokémon TCG Pocket quickly gained attention. Following this, the developer DeNA released the Mythical Island expansion in December 2024, adding another 86 cards to the collection.

On January 23, 2025, DeNA officially announced Space-Time Smackdown, validating earlier rumors that focused on Generation 4 Pokémon. Notably, the expansion’s reveal trailer prominently featured iconic legendaries Dialga and Palkia, signaling their significance in the upcoming release. Each legendary will also debut an Ex card in this expansion, enhancing their competitive play.

Launch of Space-Time Smackdown on January 29

The trailer introduced Space-Time Smackdown’s release date as January 29, which follows the Mythical Island expansion by just under six weeks. Given that this expansion includes two themed booster packs, it is expected to feature a greater number of cards compared to the singular booster packs from Mythical Island, yet likely fewer than the three-pack collection from Genetic Apex. Projections suggest this set could comprise about 160 to 170 cards.

The expansion’s trailer showcased various cards that will feature in the set, including Dialga Ex, Palkia Ex, Cresselia, and Gible, along with the introduction of a new trainer card featuring Cynthia. Of these cards, Dialga Ex stands out as a potential game changer due to its unique ability, the Metallic Turbo attack. Although the damage output of 30 for two Energy is modest, its ability to attach two Metal Energy cards to any benched Pokémon can significantly alter the gameplay dynamics, potentially revitalizing Metal decks within Pokémon TCG Pocket.

New Trading Feature Launching Before Space-Time Smackdown

In an additional announcement, DeNA revealed that trading will be implemented in Pokémon TCG Pocket starting January 28, just ahead of the Space-Time Smackdown expansion’s launch. While previous communications indicated that all expansions would be rotated out, it remains uncertain if the Genetic Apex expansion will be removed anytime soon, allowing players continued access to its booster packs when Space-Time Smackdown rolls out.
