Overview of Pack Points Concerns in Pokémon TCG Pocket
- Players of Pokémon TCG Pocket are expressing dissatisfaction with the current structure of the Pack Points system, where each booster pack operates independently in terms of accruing points.
- Many players advocate for a unified Pack Points system, allowing points to be shared across different booster packs. This change would simplify the process of collecting missing cards across various sets.
The Pack Points system in Pokémon TCG Pocket has become a significant pain point for players since its initial rollout. Initially viewed as a reasonable method for obtaining essential cards to complete sets or decks, the system’s effectiveness has diminished as the number of available booster packs has grown. With an increasing variety of expansions, many players are vocalizing their frustrations, hoping that developers will consider modifying this system soon.
Since its debut in late October 2024, Pokémon TCG Pocket has captured the interest of millions of players worldwide. The launch included the Genetic Apex pack, which featured three variants and comprised 226 cards, excluding rare items. In December, the introduction of the Mythical Island expansion added 68 new cards, followed by the Space-Time Smackdown expansion in January, which contributed an additional 155 cards. Less than a month later, the Triumphant Light booster was released, bringing in another 75 cards. This rapid expansion has made it increasingly challenging for free-to-play players to assemble complete base collections without incurring costs.
Call for a Universal Pack Points System

Within community discussions on platforms like Reddit, there is a growing consensus that players want Pack Points to function universally across all booster packs. This change would empower players to accumulate points even while focusing on the latest releases, making it feasible to complete older collections as well. Such a system could promote a healthier gaming environment and alleviate the fear of missing out (FOMO) that many players experience due to the constant influx of new content. While a trading feature was recently introduced, its limitations mean that players must expend extra resources for each trade, which further complicates the card collection process.

Another aspect of card acquisition, known as Wonder Pick, is equally impacted by the swift rollout of new booster packs. The likelihood of acquiring a sought-after card through Wonder Pick is diminished as players often split their attention between various card collections, complicating their chances of finding specific cards. A shift to a more inclusive Pack Points system could fundamentally enhance the experience for free-to-play players, enabling them to complete their collections without the need for premium purchases or subscriptions.
