The Ground/Grass-type Pokémon, Toedscool and Toedscruel, may initially evoke similarities to the regional variants of Tentacool and Tentacruel. Nevertheless, it’s important to recognize that they represent an entirely different species, akin to the relationship between Wiglett and Wugtrio. With both familiar and new Grass and Ground types featured in Scarlet & Violet, players might be curious about Toedscruel’s viability in battles or raids. Fortunately, Toedscool and its evolution, Toedscruel, are not difficult to locate within the game, giving trainers ample opportunity to decide on their potential inclusion in their squads.
Locating Toedscool in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet
Where to Find Toedscool

Toedscool tends to inhabit the South, East, and West Provinces, often found clinging to tree trunks in these diverse environments. Although they’re commonly encountered, you can optimize your search by concentrating on specific areas:
- Watchtower in East Province (Area Two), near Levincia.
- The region surrounding Medali.
- Socarrat Trail.
For clarity, refer to the objective flag in the images below that pinpoint Toedscool’s spawning locations:

If you’re eager to obtain Toedscool early in your adventure, East Province (Area Two) is an optimal zone. This Pokémon can assist you during the Electric-type gym battle in Levincia. To reach the watchtower efficiently, consider using a Flying Taxi from Levincia’s southern exit.
The area outside Medali hosts a variety of Pokémon, including Toedscool, at a higher level compared to those found in the East Province. If you’ve caught Toedscool here, they will likely already be at their evolution level, and you simply need to level them once more to trigger their transformation.
Additionally, Socarrat Trail, located to the north of Casseroya Lake, is populated with Bug and Grass-type Pokémon. Depending on your team composition at this stage, you may already have a Grass-type present.
To summarize:
- Toedscool near the watchtower in East Province (Area Two) are approximately level 19.
- Toedscool near Medali are generally at level 34.
- Toedscool spotted along Socarrat Trail are the most robust, reaching around level 54.
You can also encounter Toedscool during 1-star Tera Raids. These become available right at the start of your Treasure Hunt. Pokémon caught from these raids will be level 12, with the possibility of their Tera Typing differing from their original type, such as obtaining an Electric Tera Type instead of Grass or Ground.
Evolving Toedscool into Toedscruel
Where to Locate Toedscruel

To obtain Toedscruel, you must evolve Toedscool. This evolution occurs at level 30. If you captured Toedscool in the vicinity of Medali or Socarrat Trail, it’s likely already at or above the required level. You can use Rare Candy or Exp. Candy to facilitate the evolution process.
Toedscruel’s Habitat in Paldea and Kitakami

Toedscruel can also be found in the wild, although it has a more limited range than Toedscool, appearing only in Socarrat Trail, typically found alongside Toedscool.
For those who purchased the Expansion Pass, Toedscruel can also be found in Kitakami:
- A fixed spawn of Toedscruel is present in the Kitakami Wilds at level 36. Upon completing “The Way Home, ”this will increase to level 69.
- Another fixed spawn exists in the Timeless Woods, starting at level 52 and escalating to level 73 post-quest completion.

In addition to wild encounters, Toedscruel can be found in Tera Raids, specifically in 4-star and 6-star Tera Raids. The 4-star Raids become accessible after earning 7 gym badges, while the 6-star Raids appear following completion of the Academy Ace Tournament in the post-game.
Toedscruel’s Weaknesses and Base Stats
Assessing Toedscruel’s Value

As a unique Ground/Grass-type, Toedscruel offers a wider range of type coverage, although this comes at a cost of additional vulnerabilities. The dual typing makes it particularly susceptible to Ice-type attacks, necessitating strategic team planning to mitigate such risks.
Here’s a breakdown of Toedscruel’s weaknesses, strengths, and key statistics:
Super-effective against: | Electric, Fire, Poison, Steel, Water, Ground, Rock |
---|---|
Weaknesses: | Ice (4x), Fire, Flying, Bug |
Resistances: | Rock, Ground |
Immunities: | Electric |
HP: | 80 |
---|---|
Attack: | 70 |
Special Attack: | 80 |
Defense: | 65 |
Special Defense: | 120 |
Speed: | 100 |
Total: | 515 |
Though Toedscruel lacks exceptionally high Attack or Special Attack stats, it can excel offensively with moves like Sludge Bomb or Energy Ball. Moreover, its impressive Special Defense and Speed make it an effective speedy special wall. Thus, if you’re seeking a Pokémon that balances high Special Defense and agility while maintaining manageable weaknesses, Toedscruel may be a valuable addition to your lineup.
Toedscruel comes equipped with a single ability: Mycelium Might, which ensures that its status moves land on foes regardless of the opponent’s abilities (e.g., Big Pecks), though it will always attack last when using status moves.
