In the captivating world of Pokémon Legends: Z-A, players can discover new starter Pokémon such as Chikorita, Tepig, and Totodile. However, for those seeking an immersive experience reminiscent of Lumiose City, the quest to capture the iconic Kalos starters—Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie—is a must.
These formidable Pokémon are hidden throughout Lumiose City, but obtaining them involves completing specific side quests. Fortunately, each Kalos starter also has a mega evolution waiting to be unlocked.
Unlocking Froakie in Pokémon Legends: Z-A
Froakie, the agile Water-type starter, can be tricky to unlock, primarily due to its affinity for obstacle courses. To initiate the quest titled ‘A Challenge from Froakie, ’ players must head to the construction scaffolding obstacle course located north of the Jaune Pokémon Center.
Upon arrival, a construction worker will share details about Froakie’s favorite pastime—tackling challenging courses. This quest will require players to successfully complete three progressively difficult obstacle courses. The time constraints are set at 30 seconds for the first, 40 seconds for the second, and 50 seconds for the third.
The initial two courses are fairly manageable, but the final one, located at the northern tip of the city, poses a greater challenge. Once you conquer this final course, Froakie will be impressed enough to join your team.
Unlocking Chespin in Pokémon Legends: Z-A
The journey to obtain Chespin begins with the quest called ‘A Feisty Chespin.’ This quest takes place between the Hibernal Pokémon Center and the Centrico Pokémon Center.
Upon your arrival, you will encounter a spirited Chespin blocking a woman’s car, ready to compete. To complete this quest, you simply need to defeat Chespin in battle—specifically, win three times to secure its loyalty. It’s advisable to take along Fire, Bug, or Flying-type Pokémon to ensure an easy victory.
Unlocking Fennekin in Pokémon Legends: Z-A
Finally, Fennekin completes the set of Kalos starters, and it can be acquired through the quest ‘Get Well, Fennekin.’ This quest is found north of the Magenta Plaza Pokémon Center, across the river.
In the park, you’ll discover a sick Fennekin needing immediate help. A nearby woman will guide you to seek assistance from an elderly gentleman at Café Classe, located near the Vernal Pokémon Center.
He will instruct you to find a Revitalizing Twig from Wild Zone 5. After successfully locating the twig in the Wild Zone, return to Fennekin and provide the twig to earn this final member of the Kalos starter trio.
