Pokémon Legends Z-A: A Complete Guide to Obtaining Fossil Pokémon

In Pokémon Legends: Z-A, trainers face the thrilling challenge of capturing over 200 Pokémon. Many of them can be found in the expansive Wild Zones, while others are unlocked through specific quests, including the coveted Kalos starter Pokémon.

Notably reminiscent of previous installments, fossil Pokémon make a return; however, you cannot simply capture them. Instead, these ancient creatures require players to locate various fossils and revitalize them, including Aerodactyl, Tyrunt, and Amaura.

Reviving Fossil Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

Early in your adventure, you will receive a side quest titled “Restored from a Fossil“, recognized as side mission 27. This quest is initiated by a lab technician within the Pokémon Research Lab, where players first interact with Mable.

Once this mission becomes available, head to the Pokémon Research Lab and speak with Reg on the second floor. He will inform you about a newly designed machine capable of reviving Pokémon from fossils, and as a bonus, he will reward you with 20, 000 Pokédollars.

Reg will instruct you to acquire either the Jaw Fossil or the Sail Fossil from the nearby Stone Emporium, conveniently located just a minute’s walk north of the lab.

Upon arrival at the Emporium, browse the inventory, which features these two fossils along with the Old Amber—a familiar item for long-time fans of the series, essential for reviving Aerodactyl.

Utilize the 20, 000 Pokédollars provided by Reg to purchase one of the fossils. Afterward, return to him to revive Tyrunt or Amaura. This process doesn’t end there, as you can subsequently revive the other Pokémon without the need to explore a Wild Zone.

If you decide to return to the Stone Emporium, you can purchase the remaining fossil for 20, 000 Pokédollars and the Old Amber for 30, 000 Pokédollars. Bring both of these back to Reg at the Pokémon Research Lab for revival at no additional expense.

Each revived Pokémon will start at level 20. For those eager to obtain Aerodactyl, note that it can immediately Mega Evolve once you acquire the Aerodactylite Mega Stone. However, Tyrunt and Amaura will require additional leveling up to evolve before they can Mega Evolve.

To Mega Evolve either Amaura or Tyrunt, you’ll need to raise them to level 39, at which point they will evolve into Aurorus and Tyrantrum, respectively. Only after their evolution can they use their respective Mega Stones during battles for the powerful Mega Evolution transformation.
