Niantic has unveiled exciting plans for the Pokémon GO Lunar New Year 2025 event, commencing on January 29. This event offers players unique opportunities to capture Lucky Pokémon, Shiny Pokémon, and a host of other enticing rewards. Similar to the current Fashion Week event, gamers can complete a variety of Field Research tasks to earn extra bonuses during the upcoming celebration.
As Pokémon GO celebrates its ninth anniversary in 2025, players can anticipate a series of new events and updates leading up to key highlights such as Pokémon GO Fest in the summer. Among these new additions is the Pokémon GO Tour: Unova, set to occur in Los Angeles and New Taipei City from February 21 to 23, followed by a global event in March. Before the excitement of the Unova event, players can enrich their Pokémon collections during the Lunar New Year festivities.

- Pokémon such as Makuhita, Nosepass, Meditite, Duskull, and Skorupi will hatch from 2 km Eggs.
- Rewards: Participants can earn Stardust, XP, Zygarde Cells, and Pokémon encounters through Timed Research, Field Research, and Routes.
- Paid Research Option: For $2, players can access Paid Timed Research that includes rewards like two Lucky Eggs and an incubator.
During the event, players can tackle Lunar New Year-themed Field Research and Timed Research tasks, alongside Routes that reward participants with Stardust, XP, and encounters with thematic Pokémon. By participating in these Routes, players will also have the chance to collect Zygarde Cells.
For those interested in maximizing their rewards, a $2 event-exclusive Paid Timed Research will unlock further benefits, including encounters with Ekans and Nosepass, in addition to Lucky Eggs and an incubator. It’s essential for players to claim all Field and Timed Research rewards before the conclusion of the event on February 2 at 8:00 p.m. local time.
Additionally, players are encouraged to showcase their Lunar New Year Pokémon in Pokémon GO’s PokéStop Showcases to earn item bundles based on their showcases’ outcomes. Furthermore, an event-specific Collection Challenge will grant players extra Stardust upon completion, greatly benefiting avid traders in the Pokémon GO community as the Lunar New Year event approaches.
